Just when I thought I was cruising along with my resto/mod with an April completion date, I began to rewire the car with a painless harness. It has become a test of my patience! Afterall, I am a plumber not an electrican. Hell, I don't even wire in the boilers I install. Wish me luck guys, I'd hate to lose this car to an electrical fire.

I did my car with a Kwikwire kit a few years back, for a month or two all I did was go look at all those wires and then turned around and walked back in the house, they scared the ^&%$ out of me. Then I want out and did one circuit at a time, first engine, then headlights....before you know it I was done. Practice soldering!

I hear ya. I think I'll have to acquire a taste for "spaghetti" on a nightly basis. Besides wiring up the autometer NV gauges, I have the line lock to run, neutral safety switch etc. And here I thought the older cars would be easier to work on! Oh well, no matter what, this baby will be at carlisle! Thanks for letting me vent. Excuse, but I have to run out now, for some more grated cheese!

People are PM'ing me saying they like the green piping on the seats. I did a little something with the head rests as well

Those don't look like the original seats. What did they come out of?

Wiring isn't all that hard. Kinda think of it like this. The electricity is water and the wire is the pipe. The water has to go from the pump station to the sewer. Electricity has to go from the positive terminal on the battery to a ground (which goes back to the negative terminal on the battery). In between the pump station and the sewer is a toilet or a sink or a hot chick in a shower. In between the battery positive and ground is a lamp or a ignition or a hot chick in a lighted rearview mirror. OK, that's overly simplistic and probably shows that I know as much about plumbing as you do about vehicle wiring, but that's the basic idea. If you need help or get stuck, PM me.

Yeah love the green stitching, whos the one that had the patience with the highlighter marking all those threads..:p joking, You did a great job on that upolstery!

Their is nothing painless about painless wiring..I installed a fuel injection on my 72 landcruiser..I heard that their set up sucked...found a setup from howell enginering..Took me just a couple hours to get done...Painless always gives you more than you need and lets you figure out what you don,t need..
Lots of luck with your spagetti!!!

Does Painless still send wiring diagrams that look like photocopies of drawings on a cocktail napkin?

Take your time and veiw the wires as pipes that carry water.

Painless had decent instructions last I looked. There tech help was good as well.

The supplied diagram was not nearly as useful as the ones sold on ebay for your car. Get one in color and use that in conjuntion with the one supplied. I even took the one I bought to a copy shop and had it blown up to 11x17, it was worth the couple bucks.

Thanks for all of the advice. Glad to know that I'm not the only one to become frustrated by the folks at "painless". I'll keep you all posted.

The way I found to ease the pain was to layout the harness on the floor of your shop and seperate the circuits that run east/west and north/south bundle those together then shorten to each device they connect to. I wrote down each circuit like engine compartment, IP, body, and trunk area and it help organize the wires.

I've wired industrial panels with miles of wire, ALL OF IT RED! Dont look at the pile. Just one wire at a time. A bag of tiny tie-wraps to loop it through for temporary routing helps. The big picture is overwhelming. The satisfaction of completing it will be worth it!

Well, I think that I've found a solution. I'm having a wiring party on the car today with an electrican friend of mine as well as others. In exchange, their entrance fees into a wild underground rather exclusive nyc super bowl party on Sunday is on me. So, I should have some rather interesting photos for you all on Monday. Of the car that is, of course! Thanks for all of your advice..

Bwa ha ha ha! Just make sure most of the electrons are flowing before the beer. (Always hate it when I hit the horn and the wipers go on....)

Finally! The pre-super bowl wiring party was a complete sucess! Car is wired and i brought it out to my old school muscle car mechanic to install it's powerplant. I'm now back on schedule for my April completion date. I'll post some pictures of some of the Mopars (in another thread) that are currently keeping my project company while it's getting lovely restored. Thanks for all of the public and privately giving support/advise received.

By the way. That's a rallye style lay-out, in a non-rallye dash frame. Notice we kept the switches in thier original non-rallye dash position. Once the template was made, it was a pretty simple installation.
