I have looked at a lot of pictures of people's cars and there are all different.
The chart that Cuda Chick put up says that they are painted gloss black but I have seen some a natural color or even semi gloss black, anyone know which is the right color?
It's for a 69 b-body

My 69' has never been apart, and it was never painted at the factory. I have started clearing them to avoid the rust look, but still look the way they were made.

So you are saying they are not black, but a cast look?

Yes. The K member I have is the cleanest un greasy example of the original, and no paint either. That being said, I will say one puzzle is , why did they paint the torsion bars? I understand for looks black is good, but none of my cars, if original have a painted K frame or lowers,or upper A frames. But, in 1969 Chrysler never dreamed anyone would care about how the car looked underneath.

I stand to correct myself! Hating as I do to hear the never word, I checked my stuff. my darts don't have paint, nor does the slant six 67' B body. However, after a relook, my 69' coronet is , as well as the 68' GTX, and charger.
So don't hold it against me! The paint is flat black, and I believe my K member was painted off the car, as another other K member I have is painted where it attaches to the car. my wrecked 66' slant six is not painted. Maybe the price of the car,,,,, It is hard to tell unless you really crawl around, as the cheap paint is usually long gone where exposed. Sorry about that!
One thing I can say for sure, it is 64 degrees here today, and Sunny! So I'm washing an old car!

A good clue is if you have rusty parts they weren't painted. Of course that assumes you have a very original car as an example. Control arms were mostly bare steel or dipped in cosmoline (gold color stuff). Torsion bars are always painted and that is to protect them. Even in the manual they say to not scratch them up. These are stressed parts so rust pits might cause eventual failure. Every K member I have seen was semi gloss black.

Stress would explain it, 90% of my cars are all original, and the paint wasn't obvious until I scraped the corners of the chassis.
Thanks meep-meep

So what was the "gold " color and where can I get it?
