Need advice on how to remove strips that were painted over factory paint on my 67 r/t. It looks like white enamel over original paint with no primer. I would like to remove it without damaging paint.
thanks for any advice, Dave

If the stripes were painted on they should have sanded, scuffed or in some manner prepped the area for paint. That being the case if you could remove them you will already find damage. If they are a decal you may be able to peel them off. If they are paint try a course rubbing compound or a little lacquer thinner on a rag and see what you get in an inconspicuois place. My guess is you would be better off re painting the hood to eliminate the stripes.

I agree with the rubbing compound, but you would have to be a pro to pull it off. Odds are you would end up going through the base paint at some point or another no matter how careful you were. On the other hand, what do you have to lose? If you pull it off, you're good to go. If you mess it up, the worse that can happen is you'll need to get the hood repainted.
