Yes, I already know this is a stupid question and I'm opening myself up to scorn and ridicule. But should I dismantle a very nice car for parts?
I recently purchased a '66 Satellite planning to use quarters, doors, trunk and hood for my '66 Belvedere II, which I've owned for nearly 40 years. The Belvedere is solid except for the normal rust on the lower door lips, lower quarters, hood and trunk lips. I've already stroked the POLY with the help of the absolutely wonderful Gary Pavlovich. When the Satellite arrived I found it to be an extremely solid and nice car (Sorry, no photos, the car is a distance away and I forgot to take pics.) The 383 is missing, I knew that when I bought it, but I have everything else. Nice interior, with some reupholstering, and all the bright work is there and very nice. Oh, and tinted glass and power windows. The fellow doing the body work refuses... kinda, to take apart the Satellite, and I agree... kinda. He says he can fix the Belvedere - metalwork vs. parts swap - but it will cost me a little more. I imagine I can handle that. What I'm really wondering, except for the obvious 'why destroy the Satellite', is the value to the MOPAR community. Would it be better served to rebuild the Satellite to daily driver quality, after the Belvedere is done, or use it to supply parts to others in need. Would be nice, though, to have a Belvedere AND a Satellite.
