I have battled with the vacuum advance plate and gap precission since ever. I think thats the big cons Mopar distributors have. Since they run into a diff ratio than the reluctor, the gap changes between +/- .002 up to .006 or even more when the vacuum works.
Aside that they got lot a free play on pivot and spring system. On Small block maybe is not that problematic because they are vertical, BUT on Big Blocks that's a problem. That adds more pickup gap variation. Hence you can find eated reluctors around
I have made to get a nice gap setup bending the pickup bracket here and there untill get the gap set between .007 and .009 with vacuum off and on all allong the trace.
I solved a bit the free play with teflon tape into the pivot, closing the gap play there
