So i decided to take a break from my strange noise issue,, and change the oil and filter and put on my new Petronix ignition.

Yeah, the noise is still there, cant figure out where it is coming from still.

Nothing odd in the drain pan though.

What the heck is up with this Petronix though???

I replaced everything following the instructions. and started it up, it started fine, but ran like crud.

So i checked the timing, plugged the advance......ummmmm hello where is the mark? It was way advanced all of a sudden. I thought i had put the timing light on No 3 cylinder, checked it twice, No. 1.

So i set it to around 15 btdc, and it ran like crud still, messed around and finally got it to run passably around 0 degrees, so i drove it, pinged all to heck.

I thought i had put it in 180 off, but the little plate can only go in one way. I messed with it for a bit and finally gave up and put the points back in, retimed it and drove it.

I think the kit can only be installed one way. I'm not very good with timing, distributors, or ignition, I removed the distributor, installed the kit, then put the distributor back in, and the car ran great till it burned though the cheap spark plug wires I was using. The only thing I can think of is did you install the distributor back in correctly ? I'm sure you did this, but did you double check your installation to see if you missed something ? Other than that, you might want to email or call Pertronix customer support. I sent them a few emails while doing my installation and they got back to me pretty fast.

I didnt remove the distributer when i installed the kit.

I thought i may have installed it backwards, looked, but it could only go in one way. Thought the rotor may be bad, so i tried using my rotor on the pickup coil, but it didnt fit right. Said screw this after a hr, took the distributer out, reinstalled the points and put it back in, timed it and took it for a drive.

I emailed them, maybe they had the wrong parts in the correct box.
