Hey all, just trying to find anyone who may know my car from back in the day. It’s a low option 70 GTX, 440/4bbl, 4 spd, In-Violet outside, no vinyl top, black interior, no power options at all, man steering/drum brakes. It had a good quality color change early in life to B5, then several bad color changes, most prominent being red and then covered in grey primer. It looks to have broken a right lower ball joint at some point as it has a big scuff on the front rail and inner fender apron and someone installed an A body lower control arm out of ignorance or necessity to make it moveable. Last registered around ‘89 in Petaluma California and also had a couple of parking tickets there before I got it which I had to pay. I have owned it since March of ‘91. Anyone know it??

Popping this back up for new viewers. It was wearing its original California blue plates #304AMN when I got it. Sound familiar to anyone??

I grew up in Petaluma
I remember this GTX.
Had a 440 with in-line 2x4.
Rusty trunk
Ugly rims.
Was badly painted red with black side stripes if I remember right?
I was going to trade a 63 impala coupe straight across for GTX.
Deal fell through.
A Mexican guy named Rudy owned it.
1989 would be about right for the last time I saw it on the road.
He was always in and out of trouble with cars…….

That’s about all I remember
Glad to hear it survived.
How about posting a pic of it today……

It sounds like my car. Center of trunk floor and bottom of right quarter were rusty from rear window leak. The red paint was under rattle can grey primer when I bought it. The red appeared to have been sprayed over bare metal. I bought it from a guy named Steve Dippold in Sac who was a Mopar cars and parts dealer. No engine, trans or Dana when I got it. Steve said he thought it went through 5 or 6 people since last registration. He was parting it out, but I got him to sell it to me as it sat.

Any chance you know anyone from back then who may know more about it, or may have pics or who knows what? Just kinda curious. I know it was treated pretty rough.

Before Rudy (I don’t remember last name) it was owned by a guy named Jay Elliot.

I sent this post to a mutual back in the day friend.

He said he has seen both Rudy and Jay recently. I will see if I can get some contact info.
It had a 3.54 Dana in it when I last saw it.

Awesome, it would be cool to find out more. I figured Petaluma being a smallish town, someone had to know of it.

And yes, it is coded for a 3.54 Dana.

wow! I'm impressed, surprised and happy this thread got some traction. It's rare to be able to connect the dots with people who knew the owner and history trail for a classic car. This is cool.

I’m surprised it took me a couple of tries, but figured there couldn’t have been too many 4 speed 70 GTXs running around Petaluma so someone had to know it.

I've often wanted to do the same for a car I used to own for a long time to see where it is, but then I'd have to go find a Chevy forum...

The Petaluma city name caught my eye. My 71 GTX sold at Jim Rose CP in Petaluma

From 71-73 while in service in the Bay Area I used to deliver TVs for Mathew’s TV on my days I wasn’t on duty. Each day of the week was a specific area. Used to love heading to Petaluma for that very reason. Always seemed to be neat stuff on the roads once evening set in.

Here’s the requested pic. This was a couple of years ago when I was moving. Nothing much to look at as she sits, but the quarter and trunk are repaired, and it has a 440 and a 4 speed and disc brake swap. It runs and drives but needs wiring and glass to be streetable. It was in body shop jail for several years after I bought it, then life kicked in with getting married and buying houses, and all of that living stuff. The upside is that it’s been stored indoors for over 30 years now. Looking to get it doctored up and back on the road maybe over the winter.
