Pics from Back in the Day

Left an aircraft builders meeting in Brampton, on Mother's Day, about 25 years ago in the Superbird. Promised the Wife I'd be home to make supper. Doing a buck twenty (mph) Northbound up Airport Rd I came over a hill to an OPP radaring. I just pulled over and let him catch up.

In a loud voice he said "let me see your pilots licence" and I obliged and handed it to him. He handed it back, went back to his car and pulled a U turn and left! Laughing so hard I thought he was gonna blow chunks.

A good friend's Sport Fury. Pic taken in 1976.
He still has it. 383 with a 2-4 long ram.

My Dad's 383-4 '69 Newport 4 door ceedan handily shut down my neighbor's 440 New Yorker. Same with a schoolmates parent's 71 440 NY.
Something about 355s, trailer towing package?

Some of the more recent pics, I just have to say...mixing different mag types is a big fail. Slots with Cragars, Keystones with dog dishes, etc...it is to puke.
Back in the day, you did what you could afford. I had slots on the back on my Dart, and factory wheel covers on the front! Some of my buddies had to get what was available and they could afford - so that sometimes led to different style mag wheels on the front vs. the back. Not great by today's standard, but much better then being a "dork" back then!

Agreed, but why not wait until you could afford all 4? Thats what I did; guess my aversion to 'dork dishes' wasn't as strong then...:poke:

I always heard of Crystal Beach, near Fort Erie, in the '60's and '70's, but never made it there. Now, I believe it all subdivisions.
Yeah was a happening spot back in the day. There was an amusement park with fun house and the usual rides. Went there as a teenager.

1) Get paid on Friday and buy 2 rear wheels and tires on Friday or Saturday.
2) Go cruising on Friday or Saturday night.
3) Wake up the next morning and your 2 new wheels and tires have been stolen.
4) Reinstall 2 old wheels and tires.

Cheaper than having all 4 new wheels stolen at once.

Tough neighborhood!

If I remember my broke-dick-days, you find a smokin' deal on 2 used wheels and you have the $ in your pocket. The question to answer is, 'Will my car look better with those 2 wheels than without them. If it's yes, you buy them with a plan to upgrade the other 2, or find an even better set of 4 later. I remember a lot of horse trading back in those days.

You also had your burnout wheels that you put whatever crappy, hopefully free tires on to vaporize. Clorox bleach allowed!
