(pics) Mangusta means Cobra killer

Hi Jimi!
Actually:
The Ford buying Ferrari was a "Done Deal"
Ferrari was financially strapped.
Ford was set to close the deal, Ford sent "Book Men" (Financial Execs) over to Italy to inspect the "books" and Ferrari said: "What Books?"
Ford backed out of the deal.
Seems Ferrari was run like an Old Country doctor tale....
No money? Pay me in chickens....HA HA!
& the purchase didn't include Ferrari's
race program, race fabrication facilities, race engines program,
the race team or racecars...
Enzo only wanted to let go of "Just the street cars facilities/programs",
Ford was pissed, said see ya'...
Came back got Carrol Shelby back from Africa, got his team onboard
& with a new Ford team, Ford backing no holds bared & no expense spared,
with a Lola {?} monocoque fiberglass/alum. tub & chassis,
fiberglass doors hood & engine covers, Lexan windows
to developed the Ford/Shelby GT40 as a giant killer
1st the Mark I, Than later the Mark II III & IV kicked Ferraris asses,
for years to come...
Ford came back & kicked Ferrari's *** in Le Mans,
after the botched purchase deal...
Ultimately taking 1-2-3, shutting out Enzo's beloved Ferrari race team...

That "darn" Budnicks...
Got to get up early to beat that "Robin" to the worm
The cost at the time aw about $10K
Kind of "steep" don't you think?
Yeah in 1971 money that's big $$$

And a detomasso Pantera was never sold at a Ford dealership!
Lincoln-Mercury dealers for 71 & 72....that's Ford enough for me.
In Tucson @ Selby Lincoln-Mercury(that is Selby, not Shelby) Panteras were about 11K out the door. Can't even buy a gd kia rio for that. At the time it was still a good amount less than Ferrari, Lamborghini.....for those that wished to dine Italiano.
