I bought these at Walmart for $15.00/pair to experiment with. They were plug and play in my 68 RR. They are just a little bit brighter than the incandescent. Turn signal acts normally and does not hyper-flash. They are a little different shade of red through the lenses because LEDs have whiter light.

I wish there were a little more contrast between tail and brake, but I think they will do. I am going to use them for a while because the reaction is instant; both sides light at the same time when you push the brake pedal. With incandescent and the ancient wiring in my car, one side would light up a moment after the other, and the hazard lights would be out of phase.

I might think about putting a little universal third brake light back there if I start driving it more when others are on the road. There is so much traffic now and everyone is busy with cell phones and texting.

Pics of the results? I tried some years ago but the light did not flood the red - instead you could see the individual bulbs. They were the fan led's in white.

One thing I learned is that when using LEDs, use the color that matches your lense. For red brake lense, use red LED.

Running lights, motor off: LED on the left, incandescent on the right.

Just looked at those last night at Autozone. Didn't buy any yet, but all the ones there were $24.99/pair so you got a better deal.
But they had a good assortment.

IL-1156W-15 White
IL-1156A-15 Amber
IL-1156R-15 Red
IL-1156B-15 Blue

IL-1157W-15 White
IL-1157A-15 Amber
IL-1157R-15 Red
IL-1157B-15 Blue

If my original 1157 taillight bulbs under the red lenses of my 70 Road Runner are white, shouldn't I go with white LEDs?

I tried it both ways. On mine it looks orange with the white ones. I also read that somewhere; something about the wavelength with LEDs means you should use red with red lenses.

Wow, I am glad to see this thread as I was thinking about ordering these from the Mopar Classics but if Auto Zone or Walmart has them that is definitely the way to go. Now to figure out which headlight to go with.

Does anyone know why using the led in my right rear lense would make me lose my turn signals? I can put the bulb back and they work fine with an led on left. Puzzling

I saw a while back maybe 6 months ago an article in one of the popular magazines. they did a comparison of all of the ones on the market and came to an over whelming conclusion.

However I have not been able to find the article since.

I decided the connection posts are not the same. 2 led and I get two solid lights with either signal on. 1 led and 1 bulb I get 2 flashing lights on the led side and a correct blinker on bulb side. 2 bulbs every thing works as it should.

I hope they will take them back.

You may need an electronic flasher the old type flashers require a certain amount of resistance to click on and off once you start putting LED bulbs you can drop below that and they won't work anymore.

And you should always use the same color LED as the lens you get better color and more light that way.

I have read the same from SuperbrightLed to always use the corresponding LED light color to the lens you are using it with (red with red, amber with amber)

I'm sorry it did not work for you Rocketman. I just plugged them in and off I went.

I don't want anyone spending their money if this is not going to work for most people, so if it's a bad deal, I will ask the Mod to take this thread down.

I think it's OK to leave this thread up unless there is an overwhelming response from dissatisfied members who have tried these lamps. This is a case of Buyer Beware, and really, you shouldn't buy these unless you are confident in the upgrade process, and you don't mind spending the extra cash on the parts. The biggest advantage with LED lamps in a car that I can see is that they are less susceptible to damage/failure as a result of vibration - which is a problem for most filament type lamps.

So, unless anyone really wants this informative thread pulled...it can stay for now. :headbang:

the 1157 is a two element bulb and the pilot 1157 led is single element meaning a converter is required in the wiring unless there is a two element led out there? Not sure.

Based on this thread and seeing how much brighter the LEDs are, I ordered the JDM 1157 red LEDs, so here's hoping they work for me with no issues.
