As the title suggests, does anyone have info on what to tighten the Pitman Arm nut to?

It could be 130 lb/ft but it's not clear in the manual :icon_scratch:

Also, what size socket is needed? Looks to be 1-5/16" or 33mm ?

Thanks :icon_thumleft:

from the 68 service manual (page 19-57 tightening reference)...Steering arm nut (manual and power steering) 175 ft-lbs. from my notes, it's a 1-5/16 socket

Tally-ho!!! lol

33 mm is approximately 1 5/16 inches but there's nothing metric on these old cars.....or there shouldn't be.

Yeah sorry about the metric mention! We may be English but also being European we have metric tools as well, which can be handy sometimes if you dont have the right imperial socket/spanner!

My brother found that the nut was just a bit bigger than the largest socket he/we had, a 1-1/4", and also a bit bigger than a 32mm socket.

I'll see if we can buy/borrow a 1-5/16 socket for the torque wrench.

Reason for the confusion initially was the manual (we have a 1969 Plymouth FSM) doesnt call it a 'Pitman Arm' (what we know it as).... I saw the manaul myself today and have already forgotten what they call it , but a process of elimination looking at the other associated parts suggests it should be tightened to 130.

I'll check again and see if it could be the steering arm nut.

Either way, we'll prob go for the F.T. setting :icon_thumleft: :laughing7:
