Is there a decent site to get a value of a classic car?

I am looking at a 1971 Satellite that has no rust but has a non correct 383 engine in the car. Has a full vinyl top, all gauges work, runs and drives fine . I wish I had a picture of it but currently don't.

Is there a good way to value this car in the current market?

The short answer is no. One of the problems with this hobby is there are too many sources of this type of information, and it all varies wildly. Plus there a gazillion variables that are hard to explain to many of the people selling these cars. Many of them think since a Roadrunner is a Satellite that they are priced the same, some think numbers-matching 318 cars have the same value as a 440 car, and some think because a car in great shape sold for $20,000 that their less-than-great car must be worth half that. Throw in all the economic uncertainty and desperation we have today, and what's a good deal today is a crummy one tomorrow.

At the end of the day, the value of a classic car can only be assigned by you. Figure out what you want to pay for it and make an offer. The only guarantee you'll have is that right after you buy it you'll find a nicer one for less within a couple of weeks, but that's how it goes.

But you're in the right place- if anyone can give you a rough estimate of what a B Body is worth, it's the experts on this board. I am not one of those experts in the slightest, but I've seen piles of rust for $20K, and in shape drivers for $5K. Put up pics of what you're looking at and see what people say.

The only advice I'll give you on the advice you get from this forum is many folks on here focus on a "fair" price. Fair is only a good price if you're buying a car from a good friend or relative... okay, some relatives. ;) What you want is the best price, which is usually about half what a fair price is.

yep, all of the above, and once again, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it....

if you have it to build and enjoy it, who cares what its worth, except for maybe insurance purposes and even then you can have it appraised

That site is decent, for the most part, kind of pricey at the top end #1's, but pretty good overall for a vague pricing reference/guideline, if you know what # value to assess the car at between #1 being "perfect" & #5 being junk/parts car...

Bottom of dash is painted yellow- why?

Has those piss poor aftermarket mirrors.

It all depends on how that body is under that shiny new paint.

Is it originally a 383 car? 2 or 4 barrell? That makes adifference.

What's the asking price?

I did not notice the firewall was a non ac, i know there is not any ac parts for the engine and wanted to have air.
I believe it is originally a 318 car so the engine is not correct. Im not that big on yellow cars and really dont like that the interior is painted yellow. This would have to be redone.
I don't have a price I was going to make an offer.

I don't get on here very often to give any input , But after seeing your post I had to help you out. I do the Hagerty classic car insurance in Atlantic Canada and the North American Dealers Association website is the online tool that I HIGHLY recommend to clients, I use it daily!

It looks like the car has definitely had some work done to it, which is good because the car will be in better shape, but bad because that means the owner will be looking to get more money to pay for the work that was done. The car is a modified Satellite and not a road runner, and it has a bench seat instead of the buckets and console. I would say $4,000 to $5,000 would be tops for me.

That NADA guide come out pretty close to the link I posted, but you have to run through an ask and answer multi-page path each time you want to see how a different option or model affects value, versus the collector guide comparisons all on one page.

The Haggerty page is even more complicated, but has a great description on what they consider the different condition numbers to mean. I am pretty much n agreement with them on that.

Me an' Bru ike to get GREAT deals, but maybe our opinion is a bit less than the "normal" market.

I would be close to him, though- if the quarters were clean- 5K-6500 for a clean 318 car including a big block.
Bet they want several thou more, though.
