"Please S T O P saying this" thread.

Poor thread titles.
What's it worth.
Run on sentences.
Troubleshooting threads where posters have the guy take the WHOLE goddam car apart without trying the simplest fix first.

How about the newbies that join only to ask for help. They get plenty of suggestions that make sense, then the newbie tries his own idea and fails miserably....
I've seen this online and in person many times....
Hey, should I use manifold A or manifold B ?
I like manifold B. It has a history of making great power on the street.
Hmmm, I think I'll use manifold A.

:angry1:

I know my grammar is not the best. Often read threw post two or three time. Then there is the dam grammar checker thing that thinks it knows what I am wanting to say.
Being dilexic and of old German decent can be a pain in the you know what at times. But I do try.
Then there is the original object to kerndogs post. Why make people's lives a living hell with meaning less crap.

With all due respect, I went to a catholic grade school, With 11 graduates in 8th grade.(1966) I then went to a Catholic High school after that. we were taught from the beginning that you are judged by how you speak. If you speak in a stupid manner., then it is likely that lesson will be sorely missed. Command of the language is Essential for success in the business world. if you don't have it, you are an off ramp from the interstate of life. In September of 1970, in the third week of basic training at Lackland AFB, Flight 3752, I was trying to stay awake after KP at 4:30 A:M. Class was at 11:00. The T.I. said: Brutsche! where did you go to school? I woke up, (I was 17 years old) I said the above: Archbishop Rummel High School,Sargeant!
He then said: That explains it , as you appear to be the only Airman that knows how to read and write!

The average age in the unit was 23, as most Volunteered In order to avoid the Draft. I got crapped on for the rest of the time I was there.Steve you are a great Guy, but you are wrong here. To truly succeed in life, communication is everything.
And how you say something is as Important as what you are saying.

Grammer snobs. Remarking about a persons lack of proper grammar and or education, often done to build up ones own ego. I find that people who do this sort of thing are often lacking in other areas so they point out others misgivings as a way to make themselves feel more important, educated or whatever. Myself,i let my wallet do the talking.

Your a gentleman 66 and I've always thought that. I agree in the business world you need a essential understanding of proper grammar skills. However I'm not in the business world but then again i know some and worked for some who are and they could buy and sell anyone on this forum,in fact make that buy and sell multiple people. They are very smart but lack basic grammar. So should i refer to them as idiots as one person here said. Correcting someones grammar when its not asked for is the height of bad manners. Ive found very educated people who hold positions of great responsibility don't need to do this, they deal with others and help them not knock them,i guess it all depends.

Your grammar is fine

That is not the case with me. I do not get a personal boost from calling out terrible grammar. Some people have limited English skills and may be doing the best that they can. Others are just lazy or they lack the respect to make their posts easy to read. Who wants to sift through shitty spelling and punctuation to make sense of poorly assembled gibberish? Most of the time I just wince and move along but sometimes its as if these idiots are raping my eyes with their illiterate junk. :black_eye:
Ok,so some folks just butcher the language,on this we agree and quite honestly I've been known to do a job on writing a post myself. The thing is questioning the way some folks write on a car forum has always been a sore point with me as some have done the exact thing to me and they we're losers in reality who just got off at other's expense. Or at least in there small mind, thought they did

It's funny - I never noticed people saying "my bad" until the last year to two years. For some reason now I hear it all the time. I'm even starting to say it.

i don't usually go in for those idioms that get repeated time and time again. Know what I'm sayin...?

"Seriously..."
I am seriously... is it necessary to say it? No were not serious, were kidding....
Seriously... "Seriously" is just over used...

I'm not so politically correct( I love this phrase, how else can you say it?) That I just have to spell every word correctly and use perfect English. Don't criticize me as I am...You think you are so smart, you should know what I mean .......
Just say'in...................................MO

OMG ,LOL all that crap gets up my nose , fricken say what you want to say by the time you abbreviate it its been said

My grammar is by no means perfect. I never understood diagraming sentences.
Do they even teach that anymore in schools?
But I disagree, to a point.
Correcting other's to show one's superiority is one thing. Perhaps that's judgmental of one's motives.
Attitude is everything. Are you trying to help or hurt?
I went to college. Not collage.
See?
There is spelling and then there is grammar.
And then there is simple conversational English. What's the excuse for mangling that?
Double negatives anyone?
Words have power and if we as a culture continue to dumb down where does that lead us?
Are we just a bunch of parrots that repeat what we hear with no thoughts behind what we are saying?

There are three that come to mind and always stand out to me.

!. There is no such word as "irregardless".
Yes, if people keep using it, it will become accepted.
But it is not a word.

2. Please stop modifying absolutes. Something is either unique or it is not.
Even if the local diamond merchant claims that your sweetheart's ring will be absolutely unique in their (there) ad, please stop modifying absolutes.

3. One does not "celebrate" Memorial Day.
Merchants sometimes run ads for people to buy (by) their products in "celebration of Memorial Day".
Now I know we are a celebratory society and it has crept in to our speech.
However, one celebrates Independence Day.
One observes Memorial Day.
As my late father was fond of saying, his wedding anniversary was observed.
He was a WW2 Navy commander married to my mother for over 50 years.

Yup oh my God and especially when someone says oh my f'ing God. If someone says that in my home they get one warning and it's a stern one. Any who, it'll come out in the wash. Not my wash.....put it where the sun don't shine. My sentence structure rusted away a long time ago.

Most folks type "thou" when they actually mean "though". Call me a grammar snob if you like. Maybe they don't know they used it wrong since it passes spell check. A little education never hurt anybody.

Annoying sayings? When people say "same difference". I HATE that one!
