FAIRBURN, Ga. — A man and Coweta County Sherriff Office K9 are dead, and a deputy was hurt after they were involved in a late-night high-speed chase on Wednesday that ended in a shooting.
The chase crossed from Fairburn into Fulton County. The chase began around 11 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a Chrysler 300 on North Highway 29 near Tommy Lee Cook Road for a registration violation.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the driver, identified as 23-year-old Jason Wilson, refused to pull over and accelerated to 110 mph.
To stop the vehicle, the deputy executed a PIT maneuver. The driver then opened fire using an AK pistol, hitting both the deputy and K-9 Titan. That's when the deputy and other officers from Fairburn Police Department returned fire, hitting and killing Wilson.
According to deputies, K-9 Titan was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
