I've narrowed it down to one of these two lifts to properly work on the GTX'er...

opinions, comments, and suggestions welcome.

thank you kindly...your humble black sheep :headbang:

I think the Maxjax or a simiiar model would give you more easy access to the underside of a vehicle. I think Mr. Cranium has something like that in his garage - maybe he could enlighten us as to how well they work.

Thanks for all the responses, gents. there are a few reasons that i am considering getting the scissor lift..

the maxjax is a bit more pricey than the scissor lift (like $300 more)

1) room! a post in the middle of my garage would take up a lot of space, and i might not be able to get another car in with the post there.

2)im a bit weary of a two post lift that is anchored into the concrete with just 6 of those wedge anchors...not too sure if my old-*** concrete could take the stress of the lift going up and down. the concrete is in relatively good shape, but it is 30+ years old. i guess i could use a dead-man (maybe a trans jack or something) on the rear end to stabilize it, but IDK...

3)bend-pak is a good brand whereas i really haven't seen much from dannmar

I do realize that i wont be able to do any trans work or exhaust work, and that is one of the reasons why I haven't pulled the trigger on the scissor lift.

the lift would mainly be used for front end work--suspension and motor work and also for changing tires and brake maintenance etc.

How about a 4 post lift Pro Park Plus 8 PP8P $2395, you have a great place to work on the car, comes with other useable optional stuff too & storage for another car underneath if necessary... try @ www.shopequipmentlift.com/for-post-lifts/pp8p/ that is the one I was going to buy... but I haven't yet

of the 2 you have shown I say the top one Max Jack it would be much more user friendly, that the Bend Pack also only lifts 48" of lift

Buds: i would love to have a 4-post lift, but i definitely dont have enough room for that.

i also forgot to mention i have 8' ceilings, so a low-rise isn't that big of a deal.

Yeah with a 8' low ceiling, a limited lift height, won't hurt you... the lack of access under the car will thou... maybe "something like" the Back Yard Buddy Easy Access Dolly's possibly will help get the car up & safe & are far cheaper than, you will still need a good high lift floor jack thou, to get it up on-top of the dolly's... I've been considering them myself too... or even make my own

I was actually considering boxing out a part of my attic so that the top of the car would go up into it. i did some measuring yesterday, and i could sister the joists and open up the ceiling without much work.

Yeah... Not a bad Idea either... fortunately my garage is 10'5" & my shop is 14' tall, my 99 Dakota 4x4 will fit under the lift with my car on it, but only by an inch...LOL... money is my biggest deterrent, I never have enough...LOL... or spend it on the house or something else...

Another deterrent is my rollup door is an issue too, it would need to have the track & opener relocated to the ceiling or I wouldn't be able to open the door with a car on the lift... it's food for thought... I can't wait to get my shop enclosed & move stuff out there, out of my little 20'x20' garage {outside dimensions} like 19'2" inside...

The 30 plus year old concrete is probably better stuff than what they are pouring now .. provided it's of sufficient depth. If it's not though, you can get someone to cut out squares where the legs go, not that much larger in square than each leg, and pour new cement thats tied to the old and of sufficient depth and strength. Whoever does the pour could also put whatever the lift bolts too in when they do the pour and really mount the anchors well.

When I had my full size lift put in they wanted a minimum of 5" concrete under each post.

Concrete gets harder with age

For a home garage with an 8' ceiling, you're not lifting 48". I have a Mohawk in my home, a GREAT piece of equipment. Had it for many years. And, I've done EVERYTHING on it, not just brakes & tires.

The benefit of the MaxJax style is:
you can lift a body OFF the frame
(If you have that style auto)
OR: Installing the K-member while lowering the body on the K-mamber...

I want the MaxJax style for my new upcoming garage...(which is probably never)

An 8' ceiling is really too low for a 2 post lift to be much use. It sounds like a new garage is what's needed but who among us can't make a case for a new garage? I know I'd like one but the $$$ to build.
