I currently launch at between 1800 to 3000 (I am trying all RPM's at first as I sort out my new motor, etc). I apply the footbrake (in first gear) and bring the motor up on the converter to somewhere between 1800 to 3000. My brakes will "hold" the car from pusing thru the start light beam even up to 3500RPM.
What I was thinking is this:
Disconnected my 2 step rev limiter wire connection from my foot brake and tie it into my Line Lock Wire. That way I can just set the brakes on the start line, push the line lock (to hold the car using the front brakes only...I think I can go up to around 2000RPM with the front brakes only being locked without the motor pushing the car thru the start beam) and then when I "launch" the car I would merely have to release the line lock button NOT lift up on the footbrake...

I am thinking that might result in a quicker launch...

Your different thoughts ???

I can wire up a "bypass" switch to still do my waterbox burnouts using the line lock by having this "bypass switch" disconnect the 2 step rev limiter from kicking in when I have the line lock button depressed doing my waterbox burnout. Then flip that "bypass switch" back on to activate the two step rev limiter for my launch.

What do you guys think about this..is it a crazy idea or not ? 20110624_65.jpg

Mike maybe two switches for two circuits would work too. I'll need to think this thru.

You will have to lock the rear brakes too. Check your class rules. I considered alot of variations to your plan at one point. 4 wheel line lock was not legal in my class at the time. I hooked the two step up to an adjustable trans brake switch and still used the foot brake. The two step would limit rpm until released with throttle wide open. It took about three runs to get comfortable. Don't worry your foot will naturally move off the brake pedal too. And if it lags just a bit the car will drive through the brakes anyways. I had alot of success this way. Always finished in the top 5 in points and was Division 7 Summit Series runner up one year. Had several people just dismiss the idea but it really worked for me.

Hope this helps

I thought about it also. The loss of starting line rpm will offset any gain in moving both feet.

I`ve tried the dual line lock system and couldn`t get it to work very well. I couldn't get the car to hold even at very low engine speeds. I think I had a 4500 stall at the time but it still wouldn't hold still. I had M/Ts on the front and lack of traction was probably the problem. I eventually went to a trans brake and never looked back. Once you've had one you wont go back! Just my .02 cents.....

I thought the idea of the trans brake was so that you could bring up the engine power without putting tension on the drive train. Then, release the trans brake and you 'shock' the suspension like dumping a clutch. Using the brakes to hold the car puts tension on the drive train/suspension and doesn't really 'shock' things on the launch.
