Post up facts and things that hardly anyone knows...... (for entertainment purposes only. NO need to fact check)

Triple point?

No, not the triple point.

The triple point is where solid, liquid, and gas phases of a substance coexist in equilibrium, while the critical point marks the temperature and pressure above which a substance cannot exist as a distinct liquid phase, becoming a supercritical fluid.

Given enough practice, a trumpet can be made to sound like a violin when played mid-song..... as demonstrated by the two guys playing for Fred here....

He's following the beat of a distant drummer.

My Boeing employee number was 0747 and that's a fact jack.

If all the platinum ever produced were compacted into a single cube, it would measure roughly 7 meters on all six sides or just under 23 feet on all six sides.

Speaking of platinum, it was once considered to be worthless. Spanish Conquistadors, upon looting the gold objects in South America, would dump the confiscated nuggets and platinum Incan statues into the sea, getting rid of it all. They named it 'platino', meaning 'little silver'.

Metalworkers in the area had learned how to mine and work platinum objects as early as 800 B.C.

The last three numbers of my social insurance number are 007. The last four numbers of my cell phone are 7000.
The last seven digits of my mobile number are .... 1970 440 - and I have had that number for close to 24 years. I changed provider on the proviso that I could keep the entire number including the prefix - which was a new & novel idea back then. Now everyone can keep the entire number even if on a different network here.

Many years ago - like about 40 years ago, our local shopping mall had a six-cylinder engine mounted up on display to advertise "Slick-50", and oil additive that's aids lubrication and prevents engine seizure. They cranked the engine up, and people had to guess how long it would last for - without oil in the sump.

Being an old Holden engine, it ran reliably and rather cool considering. It ran too well......so well in fact that the organisers had to sabotage the engine to get it to eventually stop .....after about a week. I forget exactly how it was sabotaged......there was a time when it was revved full throttle for hours on end to speed up its demise. Created quite a stir at the time.

I remember that "Slick 50" stuff from back in the early 80s.
I remember those display engines too. Pretty funny to see an engine run the oil pan off.
In 1985 I worked at a Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in Rancho Cordova CA. I was a new car salesman at the age of 19 and not doing well at it.
There was a new Chrysler Laser on the lot that had a dead battery so someone brought out a battery jump box to assist in starting it. This was some time around ten AM. The guy let the car idle to charge the battery then forgot about it. He had wheeled the jumper box back to the service department and went home without returning to shut the engine off.
Hours went by, the silent engine just hummed and hummed. I came on at 3:00 and didn't notice anything until many hours later when I was on my way back from getting something to eat around 6:00. As I walked by, I saw coolant leaking from a car, as I got closer I could hear it running and starting to overheat. I shut it down, pulled the key and brought it inside. The sales manager was pissed off. It was then that I learned that the car had been idling for about 8 hours straight. No obvious damage to it other that boiling over a little.

One night my friend Brucester, came home crossed eyed drunk.
He had a hot rodded Chevy van. He did not shut down the engine before he passed out. At that moment his right foot hit the go pedal, and tne motor screamed, until it blew up. The noise woke up Brucester, who then removed tne key and walked to the house.
The next morning, the engine would not start with tne battery. So we pushed it done the road to jump start it. The engine went bang clang bash. We stopped, Brucester checked underneath and there was debris to be found.
A neighbour had asked me, “ did you here the explosion last night “

PEZ candy was created in 1927 as a quit-smoking aid, with dispensers designed to look like cigarette lighters. When sales flopped in 1950s America, they completely rebranded with cartoon characters for kids - transforming it into the beloved candy brand we know today.
