power door locks

Many years ago I owned a '77 Cordoba. The power door locks operated when you pulled or pushed one side it would also unlock the other door. I would like to do this on my '68 RR but I don't know if this was done with a special actuator or if there was a separate switch that was connected to the rod running from the button to the lock. Any help would be appreciated.
