Power Out in South Louisiana...

Only thing here that needs 240V is the clothes dryer, welder, water heater and the air compressor. With the freezer full even in the dead of summer its good for a few days with the lid closed. The refrigerators get emptied first so no reason to open the freezer.

5K portable generator for me. It covers well pump, freezer, frig and heater. Won’t cover AC, hot water, dishwasher (useless without hot water) or hot tub. Our last long outage was last winter (5 days). It was like camping out at home. While I reveled over thriving during somewhat difficult conditions, the better half hated every minute. After having survived the Big One in ‘64, a little thing like a power outage is nothing to complain about.

Glad that your power is back Bio!

We did pretty well with the 2 generators, and I could have just used the larger 7,500 watt one if I had better power cord distribution.
That said, a whole house generator in the area I live in is nice, because I'm surrounded by trees. I don't know how they manage to run power lines through the trees there are so many of them.

Glad you were prepared. Right now almost 1 million customers are shut down in No Cal. Not sure if Dennis is impacted. Being in the center of the central valley I am not affected by this one. Last time this happened there were stories of restaurants and stores throwing away unbelievable quantities of food because of it. They actually set up food disposal sites for folks cleaning out freezers and refers! Pathetic.
Man I feel for you folks, wild fires are scary as it gets. I was fortunate when we lived thru the Cedar Fire up in Ramona, freakin fire made it all the way to the coast, at the time it was the biggest fire in Cali. My prayers are with you god speed
