Power steering fluid

I think you will be happy with the new Borgeson steering gear box. I have used those on two cars and they were a great improvement. The A-1 Cardone rebuilt crap that is out there just sux. Same with PS pumps. Those are not fun to replace once, then have it leak and have to take it back, put on another one. Good luck.

just a by the way
Ford Panther line cars used Type F
anyone know of a direct replacement of OEM fluid for the Thompson/ Mopar pump cars like a 340

I believe those Ford cars used Mercon/Mercon V. Ford began phasing out Type F in '77, and it was gone by '82. Mercon is compatible with Dexron III. Type F not compatible, as it has different friction characteristics.

As far as the Mopar fluid, you can use Mopar 04883077, or any ps fluid compliant with MS-5931, like Valvoline white bottle.

Were talking about power steering here not trans
Crown Vic 92 and later takes Type F
and of course all the old Ford'o matic Borg Warner type trans will slip like crazy on Dex or Merc
Type F has no friction modifiers- basically a straight hydraulic oil
Even if you are Rocky Racer do not ever run it in a MOPAR or Chevy or late Ford- tears up clutch facings/ bands- even alto and it is NOT a good lube either so you get more wear on bushings
Gil Younger at Transgo tested it thouroughly many years ago- also the TrickShit type stuff- no durability
hard shifts are not good shifts
cheers

Yes, power steering fluid. Mercon/Mercon V is ATF/Power Steering Fluid as stated on the front of the bottle. Your statement was all Panther platform took Type F. I meant '92 instead of '82. I do know the '96 Town Car recommends Mercon for PS fluid.

Didn't say Type F had friction modifiers. I said it had different friction characteristics. Those Ford transmissions that require Type F were designed for a high friction fluid that provided less slippage of the clutches. Like you stated, not compatible with GM/Mopar trans.

Yes, Trick Shift and the like require more frequent changes. Most racing fluids do as they provide great benefit for a short time.
