Power Steering on GTX

no need to change column if doing the swap on a 67 & newer car..just pull out or tap in the column center shaft that connects to the gear box

I swapped 2, 70 models to PS and used the same column. If you are going to spend the money ,go with the Borgeson unit.

Here's the ultimate answer (in my opinion)...do you like the way the car drives/handles now? If so, then "If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It." If you don't like the way it handles and drives, look into making the swap.

If you *are* having handling problems with the car (real or perceived) first verify that everything's tight (ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.) -- converting from manual to power steering won't fix those issues--it'll just make them feel "different."

For what it's worth, I just swapped the steering gear in mine ('72, power) and was SERIOUSLY considering going to a manual box, only reason I didn't is that it was (a) cheaper to keep it like it was and (b) I decided it was more trouble than it's worth in the long haul -- but I *like* manual steering cars...being the odd-duck that I am :)

I have a 68 GTX and my son has a 69 Coronet. Both had power steering to start. I put manual steering in the GTX and like it a lot better. It just feels like you have more control. The only time I miss power steering is when I parallel park. And I've never done that in my car. Engine compartment looks cleaner without the pump also,
