Hello,

On a 67 GTX with 440 and a TRW power steering pump, does anyone know what factory color the pump and steering box should be?

Was the box left natural like the manual boxes were?

And what shade of black was the pump? Semi-gloss seems to be the common color for black under the hood.

Thanks in advance!

According to mark worman power steering pump should be 60 % gloss black. I would contact Frank Badalson. Search his name along with Roger gibson they will know.

I cleaned up our original 67 pump when it came off the car and it looks like it was painted with brackets and pulley on it. Under brackets no paint and bolt heads had paint in them. Cap was natural, no paint. The semi gloss you would use to simulate the paint the factory dipped or painted things with is good. I used satin Krylon.

Curiosity got the best of me so I went out in the garage for a look see. My pump is a dull black, but it is 49 years old ('69) so I suspect it was gloss. The gear box (p/s) has remnant of black paint on it ( it has a leak that has probably removed most of the paint. Gloss or otherwise would be a guess at best.

Thanks for the picture! My next question would've been if the bracket was on it or not.

I guess it's safe to assume the pump would be the same color as the steering box itself?

I couldn't accurately asses what color the box was. When I cleaned it up there appeared to be black paint but I could not be certain and I could not tell what was black. Meaning, was it painted after assembly or was the raw casting the only thing painted. I opted to paint the casting portion black and everything else natural. No idea if that's right for the steering box or not. Pump I'm 99% sure was right.

Not sure what this part is called exactly, but it's the adapter that bolts onto the power steering box. I believe it is aluminum. Does anyone know if it was painted from the factory, or left natural?

If left natural, does anyone do anything to it to prevent corrosion? I was thinking clear-coat? I know that O-rings seal it to the box, but the other parts that touch the box, should they be coated with some type of grease to prevent corrosion caused from the contact of dis-similar metals?

I left mine natural, no paint. ECS Rust Prevention Magic is a good coating for that type of stuff before you install it. Other than that, matte clear would work.
