Prarie Dogs

I'm originally from the gopher state of Minnesota. As kids we used to amuse ourselves by putting a hose down the gopher holes at the cemetery and then standing over the other holes with golf clubs and "fore"! It sounds cruel and probably was but it was fun and the cemetery used to pay us .25 a head. I've also done the prairie dog hunting thing too.

I'd use my suppressed AR/DMR. Quiet and would definitely get the job done.

Must have been a slow night to resurrect this thread after 7 months Cranky....sorry, didn't mean to call you a "name".
I unsubscribed months ago.

I guess we should agree to disagree on the concept of shooting PDs for the sake of of target practice.

BTW shooting them will never eradicate them and calling someone a liberal is not a name, it's a descriptor.
Well, the PD population is way down and yes you can totally eradicate them from certain areas if things keep going the way they are. They may not become totally gone but you can do significant damage to an ecosystem where they once were and are no more. Like I said, do some research on what happened to Yellowstone and that is one huge place. Calling someone a liberal is one thing but calling someone a 'damn' liberal is another. And no, really wasn't a slow night at all. I just happened to think about this thread and used the search box and it popped right up.

As an early teen, I was out shooting birds and after killing a few I thought why am I doing this. Haven't gone out killing things for fun since then and that was over 50 years ago. Yeah, I've put out rat bait etc when they become a problem but rats are not even close to being a keystone species and they reproduce many times faster than prairie dogs....

Knocked out two with one shot once (.22 long), I couldn't tell that one had been looking over the shoulder of the other until I walked up to the hole after the fact.

In the late 60's I "summered" in Stanford MT at my grandparents place. One of the local ranchers hired me to shoot as may gophers as I could and I got paid $.05 a head. It was a really fun job until the alfalfa needed to be cut, baled and stacked. I kept my single shot 22 rifle with me and managed to pick off a few more from the seat of the tractor though.
