I had a block tanked, checked out, bored, honed then went a different direction. Got the block home. No paint, no preservative that I can see. What do I put on it to keep it from rusting until I sell it? Should I prime and paint the outside and wipe motor oil on the internals, or what?

Thanks!

Actually stay away from WD40. Not the best stuff for coating an engine block. Use regular motor oil for coating the cylinder walls, crank journals, etc. Then get an engine bag...Napa machine shop had mine but any shop should have them and they will do...and seal or tie up the bag. I have a 440 block preserved for another day and I have zero surface rust showing. But that WD40 is really some nasty S**T...cr8crshr/Tuck

I like to use something that has more 'stick' power and WD 40 doesn't supply that....and, it's not really intended to be a lubricant either but it will do the job if you have a storage area that stays dry and doesn't have a lot of temp swings. Going from a dry cold day to a warm humid day usually creates condensation and over time, water/condensation will lift even 30wt oil. If your climate is that bad, you'll need to use something that's more permanent like a light coating of Cosmoline or similar product. It's harder to get it off but worth it.

Right now it is in an enclosed but not climate controlled garage, hope to sell it before fall.

I have sprayed them with WD-40 for years and then bag it and it has worked fine for me. Ron

Use motor oil for a short term store say a year or less ! If storing longer grease! I just got one of my dads blocks out of a 20year store and it was put away covered with grease !Power washed it and it looks like the day it was put away !!
