I used PB Blaster. Just a fine mist over
and inside the cylinders. Used 2 heavy
plastic bags. I then hooked up the
shop vac to pull all of the air out of the
bags, and sealed them up tight. This
engine (fully assembled except for
intske) was stored for 25 years before
final assembly and run-in. Not a spec
of rust after being toted around to
3 different states. One being Texas
(Houston) where humidity is very
high. After spraying into the cylinders,
I rotated the crank a few times.
The only thing I noticed is the lithium
grease used at assembly was almost
dry. Still have a very fine residue
showing up on the dipstick, but only
after sitting for a few days. It has not
affected lifter operation, and doesn't
show up in the filter. I expect this to
dissapate over time with regular oil
changes.
