Has anyone looked at this car. It has a “D” engine stamp for a 68 motor but they found a stamp (VIN) on the pan rail down at the bottom. I thought pan rail stamps started in 69 and 68 high performance engines were stamped up in back by the oil sender ports. No picture of the VIN although it is listed. Fender tag was present at one time and apparently used to get a Govier report, but is now missing. Broadcast sheet is present and decoded. But, I don’t see any resemblance between the reported VIN and the engine stamp? However, no one has questioned it and so far they seem satisfied, or at least recent posters do, that it is original.

Am I missing something? I’m not much of a numbers guy and I’ve never owned a Mopar newer than 67. The car is going to sell for good money I suspect, and bidders probably should not be to concerned about matching numbers considering the engine mods but I would hate to see someone pay a lot of money thinking it’s the original engine? But maybe it is?

Nice car shame someone stole the fender tag but at least they have a photo of the original one...

They now say they have verified matching numbers engine and transmission.

Jerry, did you look at the picture of the numbers stamped on the pan rail? I couldn’t relate them to any kind of VIN number and certainly not the VIN reported for the car. But maybe I don’t know what I’m looking at.

68 should be on the back of the block on the top with the top of the bell housing stamped ... I don’t recall ever seeing a pad there in 68. A/C lines could be routed better, looks nice.

1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440
This 1968 Dodge Charger R/T was first delivered to Charles H. Retzloff Dodge of Grants Pass, Oregon, and was refurbished in 2006. The car is powered by a 440ci V8 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission. Refinished in bronze metallic over a reupholstered black interior, the car is equipped with hideaway headlamps, 15″ Magnum 500–style wheels, power steering, a four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Mopar Performance valve covers, an Edelbrock fuel pressure regulator, Dynomax mufflers, and air conditioning. The current owner purchased the car in 2022, reportedly from the original owner. This Charger R/T is now offered on dealer consignment with recent service records, car show awards, spare parts, service manuals, and a clean Oregon title.

The sellers post said they found them in the correct place, back of block and transmission housings. Also said they could be seen, but were unable to get a good picture.
