I went and looked at a 1969 GTX today from a member over on fabo, may be a member here too. Anyway, he is asking $5000 for the car. Included is a 440hp + 727, both rear quarter skins, doghouse from another vehicle (frame rails, tortion bar box, inner fenders, support plates). Looks pretty complete, maybe 90% as the engine compartment was stripped and I didn't inquire about the parts.

The good: the replacement parts I mentioned above, real GTX, silver, black vinyl top, black interior. Cowl is good, good glass.

The bad: drivers front frame rail is rusted, pretty bad. Inner fenders were cut for wheel well headers, rear quarters are shot, rear edge of both doors has rust through, drivers side rocker has rust through. Could not get in trunk but he said it should probably be replaced. The rear dutchman panel / window filler looked like it could have rot.

The roof...vinyl and there was some crunchiness and bubbling arond the rear panels. He said he has a spare roof for it so I suspect it may be bad too.

The car was packed in pretty tight with parts so I wasn't able to get a great view of whatever wasn't in plain sight. It would be a handful but I really like the car. I am on the fence and trying to get a handle on the labor involved to bring it back to a rust free shell.

What would you pay? He is crackedback on fabo if anyone wants to swoop in and get it or go take a look. I want it but I don't lol. It seems fair for what he has and I have room for a project.

IMO, most I'd pay is $3000, in this neck of the woods. Front frame rails and swapping inner fenders isn't a fun task. That car sounds like a pretty hefty project. One thing to keep in mind is all the rotten metal that will be under the rotten metal you see on the outside.

Propwash is BACK!

Hi "threewood"
Wow, car sounds to be in terrible condition.
Also, being in Yuma AZ, I am surprised the GTX has that much rust.
So, it might have been a "Military Transplant" form the East at one time.
I'd spend more money and go with a solid body...
Just my 2 cents...

Don't know what you are looking for but I saw this on the Austin CL seemed pretty nice and looking at the pics didn't seem over priced @ $11k for a complete running driving car...

All i know is you consider all that rust that you see now and assuming you bought it and took it to be blasted you'll find much much more rust damage then you first saw. The other thing is trim for a 69 GTX is very expensive,so if your missing some trim or yours is in bad shape then replacement is costly.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot about this thread.

I bought it. Seems like a good project. I already have the doghouse replaced. Drivers rail was trashed but only a small spot on the pass rail. Replaced the entire thing as an assembly. Outer rocker fronts have some rust, working on those now. Doors are real good, only a small spot. Trunk, extension, outer wheel house, rear window blah blah blah. Typical Mopar rust. Car came packed with spare parts. Car is very straight and the rest of ghe frame rails are good. Drivers floor needs replaced, pass looks good. Came with a replacement roof. Original needs a reskin due to a crappy re vinyl job. Labor intensive but I have time:)

Car was originally out of St Louis. Body is numbers matching. Going to swap out radiator supports to keep it that way. I'm not going full resto on it, I want to make a driver. Fixing all the rust and givjng it a good paint job. Already have new panels ordered, except for the drivers floor pans and maybe rear window corners. Going to try and patch first.

Like Steve said, GTX trim & pieces are pricey and harder to come by. Ask me how I know! Good luck on your project, pictures????

Here are some pics of when I picked it up and random shots of pieces I was looking at. The dog house has been replaced, you can see the rot in the pic. I have a full top to replace the old one, going to pull the old skin and take a look but will probably reskin it down to where the sail panels turn out to the quarters.

A few more. Better shot of the new front end and grill plus dash. Really the only thing I do not have for the car is the transmission crossmember or the drive shaft. Many extra parts laying in boxes still.
