Dominic did you see the post about the 70 manual?

This manual does not follow conventional Mopar page numbers, so you'll have to "play" with the page numbers
In my viewer, page 352 shows light bulbs and fuses, and is the "general start" of the wiring diagrams
Page 378--379 is the instrument panel section for Belvedere (GTX/ RR)
On page 8-147 (379) find the "panel lamp dimmer" toward the right, not far from top of page. See wire "M2-18Y" on the bottom of the dimmer
This yellow runs all over, and connects to ONE side of the dome lights and is GROUNDED when you either open a door, or turn the dimmer control all the way to the dome "click"
Find the fuse panel, and the wire coming off the bottom "EMERGENCY FLASHER D31-18BK"
THIS IS the power that eventually feeds to the dome lights. It goes to the emergency flasher, where one terminal is used simply as a junction. From the emergency flasher, it becomes
D3-18P which runs to the STOP LIGHT SWITCH and is used AGAIN simply as a junction. That wire branches off and becomes
M1-18P AND THIS WIRE is what feeds power to the dome lights
About in the center right of page 8-147 (379) find the fuse box, then go down and find the connector labled
"To dome light wiring (body)"
NOTE that there is
M1-18P going to one terminal. This is POWER going to the lamps
Note that there is
M2 (yellow) series wires going to the other terminal. THESE wires go to the dash dimmer "dome switch" as well as the door switches, and become GROUNDED in order to turn the lamps on.
Now go up to page 353, wiring index (8-121) Notice "body wiring except station wagons, Belvedere" is page 8-123. This is actually page 355 in the pdf
Notice that at the very top of the page they show the dome lamp, and it in fact has a pink and yellow wire going to it. This is the way any other optional courtesy lamps are wired.
So you must have power at the fuse supplying the stop lamps and emergency flasher, and they should work
You should have power to one side of the dome lamps at all times, as this fuse is always hot.
You should be able to short the door switch (yellow) wire to ground and get the lamp to come on.
