Will your points short to the rotor if they don't have a very tall push off? I thinking my new points are shorting out as it is running. Pull the points back out and the little part of them that runs on the rotor is all most even with the arm on the points. My other was burned up and I put these new ones in and haven't got it to run right yet. Gapping them on 19 and these are new but the little push piece is a lot shorter than the set I took off and another set I have. Just trying to get it figured out. It was running fine with the others till they burnt. Have a new dist so wiring is all good. Any advice on this will be a great help. This is a 70 RR with 383. Thanks Ronnie

do you use a cam lube on the points so the rubbing block does not wear to fast

Yes it was lubed, these are new points I put in it. The metal frame of the points is just barley clearing the rotor that is why I thought they may be shorting on it. I'm going to change them in the morn. but was just trying to figure out what was going on with these. Ronnie

And what brand are you using?

X2 on starting off with a quality set of points. Look for Blue Streak or Echlin from NAPA.

Why not just upgrade to the Pertronix set up???? It is a plug n play set up and no one will ever know the difference that you are using it. It is far better than the old school points, condenser, rotor set up. Granted one needs to cut their teeth on the old school way, but with the Pertronix set up you get the best of both worlds...Correct looking set up with newer 21st century technology. Go for it as you won't be disappointed....
