Procomp heads

I'll be telling you how they work sometime soon..... They look great, and they had ferrea valves in them. I spoke to a "guy" engine builder a lot about these before buying! He uses them alot on customer engines and has had NO troubles with them. He also uses the typical "big money" heads on customer engines as well, but claims these work just fine. One more thing,,,, He has them on one of his cars and says "I wouldn't use it if it was junk". He understands how hard it is for "most" of us to come up with enough money to build our engines, and woulodn't want to see it all lost do to a bad part.
He also did the reverse engineering for ProComp rockers and actualy improved the design by correcting a geometry issue. I have a set of the "new design" rockers on my engine. They too look very nice!
Now that we've opened the can of worms, I can't wait to hear the replies!
I suspect most of them will be second or third hand experiances. Or "I heard" responces...Fact of the matter is this, I for one can not afford to pay 1500 + FOR A SINGLE HEAD. This is the only choice within my meens, and will do it again if need be.
Just my 2cents.

I am using their Victor Max Wedge copies. I also have their 1.6 rockers on them. I have no issues with them. I run mid 10's with them. The guy that built my motor uses the same heads on his mid 9 sec car. I don't care what guys say about me using them. If they want to make up the difference money wise then I will buy the fancy ones but until then these are the ones I can afford. I run in the NSS/B 10.50 index with these and so do the guys running the Indy heads so what is the difference?

Any photos of your setup?

BTW,
Their was a pretty good "lip" on the inside of all intake and exhaust ports that I had to remove. No big deal though,,, I actualy used a dremel tool with a carbide bit and then a small drum sander bit to do the work. Maybe this is some of the reason everyone has the port work done "CNC" before they sell them to us. I did the clean up a hell of a lot cheaper though! I've done port work before though, so it was a no brainer, and Aluminum is easy to cut.

Sorry I didn't see the questions about the heads. The guy that built my motor did a full port/polish on the heads. When I put on the new intake I got a look at his work. I was very impressed. He also put on the Indy valve covers. I wish he would have put the plain ones on instead.
This is fresh from the builders:

This is before the dual quad set up. Ran 10.80 (1.72 60ft) smoking the tires. Should be in the hi 1.40-low 1.50 60fts. I am doing some tweaking on the suspension.

Added this so I could run in the NSS races. Hopefully 10.50 "B" index

Wedge 5, wow!!! I too bought some ProComp, Victor heads from e-bay. I took them to my local machine shop and they said the springs and valves were junk so I got what they recommended. They were an authorized dealer for ProComp and said they are good castings. I had them port the goofy intake ring out. My Superbee runs like a scalded ape with these heads and a 1050 Dominator. I've blown 2 head gaskets though. I used the tried and true FelPro Permatorques and blew the #1 cylinder to the big coolant port. What head gaskets are you guys using?

I am using the Fel-Pro 1009 gasket. I also had all the hardware replaced with good stuff. (springs, valves, etc...)

I like the way the orange motor looks even with the Indy valve covers. That's cool.

I use Cometic head gaskets and never a problem, Aluminum heads Iron block and almost 14:1 compression.......

EBay or even going time procomps web site are the only places I've seen them.

There are a couple of vendors that sell procomp heads on Ebay/RacingJunk but do not buy from the guy from Diller,NE. He is one shady Mo Fo

Where is the best place to find these heads?

Check with your local 'Machine Shop'. I bought mine on e-bay, just to find out my machine shop was an Authorized Dealer for ProComp. He said it's best to buy them bare because the springs and valves that come with them are junk. I got mine on e-bay for $700 a pair and spent another $400 porting the intake 'bulge or lip' out and adding proper valves and springs.
