project; 318 to hemi

slow but sure

man this is tedious work and progress. back in the day you would go to the wreckers, get what you needed, put the car on some home made ramps and do it on the ground with minimum tools and be done in what seemed like no time. today you order the parts, wait, car on hoist, 2 tool box's full of tools and a lot of them air powered.

now you put in 3-4 hrs and turn around have a look and wonder what all you got done. is it just me or do other folks feel this way. anyway it is coming along. no more predictions on fire up though. when its ready its ready. rome wasn't built in a day.:thinker:

nothing against the 318, but that car ain't gonna know how to act with that hemi in there, looks good.

fired it up again yesterday after getting the dip stick tube in and metered. figured it would be coming home, NOT. it won't shift into gear with the engine running. there is very little adjustment with the hyd. clutch. put in 1st with engine off and started it. it sat there but you could feel the clutch trying to engage the fly wheel. took off down the road but wouldn't shift worth a ****. put it back in the shop and wait till monday to talk to tremec about it. it will be something stupid i hope. my guess, drop tranny and put more shims between T O bearing and tranny. we put it together to their specs. lets see.

We Are Mobile

WOW, it is finally mobile. the clutch problem was air in the line. vacumed it out, neat tool. it sure put a smile on an old guys face driving it. the tremec works slick. 70 mph in 4th at 3300 rpm is 2200 rpm in 5th gear, with 3;90 ratio rear. everything works as it should and then some. wish i had an electric choke on it but will change over to 2x4 set up next summer. have an 850 holley on it for now.
anyway, haveing a blast for now and will put it away this weekend for winter and catch up on some cosmetics for it. Pic's to follow shortly. rick:headbang:

As good as it looks i can only imagine headed down the highway. Have fun, i imagine it sounds great opening those headers.. love to see the guys face next to you if you done it! :)

yea its pretty cool but the biggest grin is when i opened them up with the old lady beside me in the car. she crapped her pants and figured something had broke. after i shut them she was still smiling and couldn't believe you could do that while driving. i have probably created another monster.:smileinbox:
