Project Brown Eyed Girl.. and her 72 Satty.

Most that remember me from my Charger build remember my sidekick daughter, she's always been a daddy's girl and just like her dad she had to have one so here it is. Once everything is prefitted it's getting stripped down to nothing and going on the rotisserie for a full rebuild.

The plan..

It's getting the complete drivetrain from a 2001 Dakota RT 5.9.

She wants to keep the interior pretty much as is so nothing fancy, just recover the seats and replace the panels.. probably black?

She wants it painted green (not the current bright green) with bronze aluminum mags.

I plan to remove the front valence turn signals and stretch the lower radiator opening out to full width (still contemplating where to move the turn signals to).

The biggest mod.. getting rid of the *** end. I'll be transplanting a 72 Charger rear bumper onto it along with other mods. I just don't like the *** end of these cars at all.

Yep, looks like a solid starting point.
Would those white steel wheels be 15'' X ?'' JACKMAN's? They where popular (each spoke was welded to the rim for strength) with the early '70's Jeep rebuilding guys. Might be a buyer out there for them. Could be classics?

Curious how the Charger bumper and lights will look on that car. Have you measured them yet to see how the trunk lid looks?

I honestly don't know how I'm going to do it yet but I'm assuming this will lead to many other alterations before it looks like it belongs. I believe I have a lead on a donor Charger so we'll see when I get there.

Don't know? I call them my project rims, same ones that were on my Charger simply because they never go flat and I don't care if I blast them, get paint on them or anything else. It had aluminum slots on it when I bought it but they'd go flat in a day.

So far it looks to be really solid, I put it on the lift as soon as we brought it home and couldn't find any rust. Looks like some shotty bodywork on the lower quarters behind the rear tires so I'm expecting to find something there but that's about it.

Here's what she likes so far, not quite so low and more sidewall (smaller dia rim). I like her taste! Anybody ever see side markers like this? I like the flush look, hers sticks out half an inch.

Good to hear you are finally getting around to working on that car for her Devin. She has been looking at it for quite awhile now and I'm sure she is ready as well.

I know, I planned on starting this long ago but life has been way to busy. With dad's health being questionable I felt I had to finish his truck asap before I started on the car then adding 2 more kids to the family led to us adding onto the house... Long list of priorities.

In hindsight I'm glad it did get postponed, she's driving now and can hone her driving skills in the Grand Prix GTP she bought plus she's old enough now to learn and understand the amount of work it will take.. earn it. I think waiting will end up giving her a greater appreciation.

She's going to be the coolest kid in school!

My son drove his/my 73 Road Runner in high school. EVERYBODY knew him as the kid with the hot rod (big school too, about 950 kids in every grade).

One rule I made for him: If ANYONE EVER drives his car without our expressed permission, he loses it. No warnings, no second chances. Peer pressure can be a tough thing, and we didn't want some kid thinking he could drive it, with no experience, wiping out and hurting anyone. I KNEW my son could drive it - we spent lots of time learning how it handled and reacted, including burn outs, slides, etc.

I think what you are doing is great - she will truly appreciate the car after putting blood, sweat and tears into it. Well done!

Hopefully that lesson has already been learned for her. I tried to be a fun dad and let some of her friends have fun in our Can Am UTV but kids just don't respect the fact that it's 1,200 lbs with 90hp and will do 70mph. She got to witness the carelessness that others treat your toys with firsthand and when I told her nobody is getting in or on any of our toys again she happily agreed. That's definitely a rule I'll put in place although I was hoping she'd opt for a manual which would rule just about everyone out automatically.

She still drives this car, and prefers driving a manual; heck, she even struggles in an automatic (hey Dad, what do I do with my left leg?). But it is very true: most people have no idea how to drive a manual, so that certainly reduces the chances of someone else driving a manual transmission car.
