removing my 318 poly for a hot 440 this weekend ..finally .... trans question ...have BB 727 out of a Chrysler ..do I remove the cable at the trans that I have now or can I use the cables on the BB trans and run them to my dash board thanks ....Big Block Heaven

drop the pan, you will see the cables. There is a spring that locks them. rotate the spring with a small screwdriver "just push it and it will rotate" then pull the cables out. You will need to remove a bolt or 2 on the out side hence the speedo cable and so on.

your cables will work!providing it is a cable shift trans.

Not so fast. 318 shift cable is shorter than the 383. It will 'work' but beware that it is shorter. Hold on to the full size cables, which actually may seem 'too' long but worth having in reserve. Never cut them, worth more than the trans.

So I would need to change my cables on my 63 Plymouth with a 318 poly engine when I install my 500 and 65 727 tranny?

ITS OUT OF HERE ...soon to be in .. cables seem to be the same but park looks different ...this is a 64 BB trans

Does that car know what it's in for? :)

I had a 63 Polara with a stout 69HP motor in it. Those cars are built to handle the power
Motor is looking good

You will also have to change the valve body due to the difference in the cable selector ratchet in the transmission,65 is different than 62/64..

the big block trans I have is a 64 its marked several time on the inside ... but it looked different when I popped off the shifter cable cover ..I need to look at both of them again tomorrow

Make sure when you route the shift cables that they are well protected from heat, otherwise they will melt & leak trans fluid.Don't ask how I know:icon_hang:

You initally said your trans was a 65.Does it have a slip yoke or flange output shaft? Here is a 65 trans in my 62.

its a 64 ..someone else had a reply about a 65... I'm going to take off my 63 flange and replace the 64 yoke .. what about the kick down linkage will the 63 work on the 440

Still a little confused,63 and 64 both have flange.65 was 1st year yoke. You just don't change flange, you have to change the output shaft.
