push button question

I`m going to run a 500 engine,65 trans and rearend. Hope my cables are the same from my original 318 and push button trans.

Cables are fine as long as you use 64 or earlier valve body.

Confused is right here is pics of both trans. ...BB with yoke says 1964 inside saw it on several locations when I changed filter .. thought I could just remove yoke and replace with flange ...how does output shaft come out

They started the slip yoke trans in 65.Any numbers on the oil pan rail ?Or someone could have the tail to a slip yoke.

that is why I have a 65 trans and rear. I was told all ya had to do is replace the front input shaft to accept a newer converter. I was told my cables would work as well.

Let's get some situations and facts straight.
The pictured trans, one showing a 'yoke' is not normal, therefore the start of all the confusion. Just because someone starts the word that 'it' is a 65 trans, w/o the odness of it being stated leads all the discussion up a blind alley. That yoke simply needs to be removed to see what SPLINES are on the output shaft to know what you have. DOnt forget casting dates on a casting or part are only the year it was made, and clearly a mid year 64 casting date means a 65 trans. Bottom line , the yoke is weird, figure it out. Now on the the other issue, One needs the 62 to 64 MODEL valve body to fit into a 62-64 shifter car. 65's are different but can be directly swapped. 727 to 727.
Yes ,switching the imput shaft and pump to a later model is the trick idea to use modern converters.
Information sources need to know the whole story when giving advise. Sometimes owners dont offer all the info in the rush to 'get an answer'.

And also, you can use the 65 floorshift trans with the PB shifter but not vice versa. When using the floorshift trans with a PB shifter you must use the floorshift cable adjustment procedure (adjust in 1st instead of Reverse).

THAT PIC IS NOT MY TRANSMISSION! MINE is a 65. Pulled it out myself from a 65 coronet with a big block. SAME with my rearend with 11 inch drums and driveshaft. THAT is what I AM using in my build for my 63 Plymouth. I KNOW it will ALL bolt under my car. MY QUESTION was a simple one. Is the valve body from my pb trans the same as my 65 big block. Hell I will just go look. thanks anyway.:icon_hang: This is a excellent thread, just to much confusion. Sorry I hijacked it with a question as well................

The whole world is confused, you're not alone.Use your 63 valve body.

If I wasn`t confused, I wouldn`t be right. Thanks for your help. I might be pming ya in the near future for more questions if you don`t mind. Thanks again!!!

OK... today we popped off the retaining nut pulled the yoke and replaced it with the flange ..why do you feel this wont work....measured it and was the same..

Actually when it comes down to it all 62/65 are all push button/cable shift.Just a different method of valve body operation and a different method of moving the cable.
