Hello. I have a 64 Polara with a push-button shifter. It is not activating the neutral safety switch. How do I adjust that??

"The switch and seal are installed by merely positioning the seal on the switch and threading the switch into the transmission case, tightening to 20-30 foot-pounds. There is no adjustment other than observing the 20-30 foot-pound specification."

I would think a cable adjustment or the switch is dead

You crawl underneath and see if the wire is still on the transmission switch.

I like using the second procedure with the ohm meter to adjust the cable.

Five posibilities. 1; The shift cable is out of adjustment. 2; It has a bad switch. 3; It has the wrong switch. If it has the white nylon plunger switch the plunger is longer. It can get hung up on the 62-64 push button rooster comb. It should have the switch with the tapered steel plunger. 4; The wiring between the starter relay transmision terminal to the trans is faulty. 5; The starter relay is internally failed. The switch should ground the relay terminal when the neutral switch is depressed by the rooster comb with a properly adjusted cable.
