Hello. I have a 64 Polara with a push-button shifter. It is not activating the neutral safety switch. How do I adjust that??

I would think a cable adjustment or the switch is dead

Five posibilities. 1; The shift cable is out of adjustment. 2; It has a bad switch. 3; It has the wrong switch. If it has the white nylon plunger switch the plunger is longer. It can get hung up on the 62-64 push button rooster comb. It should have the switch with the tapered steel plunger. 4; The wiring between the starter relay transmision terminal to the trans is faulty. 5; The starter relay is internally failed. The switch should ground the relay terminal when the neutral switch is depressed by the rooster comb with a properly adjusted cable.

Using the ohmmeter to adjust will work. But ultimately it may not give you perfect cable adjustment. I've raced push button stuff since the 90's. The adjustment is crutial when you race them.
