Hello guys,
I was wondering hows the trunk suppose to look? as far as paint. Was it black, wrinkled or just over spray from the exterior?
This is how it looks,

I would advise you to remove that rubber mat. That stupid thig holds water underneath ! i just removed the one in my '65, and guess what ? i am now redoing my trunk floor. Thank god just surface rust ! I will be rolling on some grey bedliner. The trunk paint looks good, but expensive and hit/miss with quality.

Thanks, I have noticed water laying on top I was thinking that if I sprayed underneath it wouldn't be a big deal, but you do have a point I'll have to figure something out. Have you or anyone else tried something that has worked? I see some trunks look body color and some are black.

Btw how is the jack suppose to be placed in the trunk? As you can see in the picture i had the spare tightened down on it to keep it from moving but today while i was putting the spare in, i decided to put it in sideways under the tire looks a little neater but i was wondering how it should go.

Yeah man, if you have any moisture getting inside your trunk that mat will hold water under it and rot the floor out quick ! As far a color goes, pretty sure the original color was grey .... not sure on the jack mounting !

Thanks i'll keep an eye out, I never check under the mat. i know i have a plug out but with the mat over it i doubt its helping much. I have noticed water but it usually puddles on top of the mat after i wash the car. While the mat was out i didn't notice any rust, maybe i'll start leaving it flipped up over the spare and just lay it out when i'm at shows.

If you're thinking original, the entire trunk was painted body color.

The whole car is supposed to be body color. The interior and and usually was different but under the hood and in the trunk was body color. The jack is supposed to have a mount on one side or the other against the quarter panel. If you're talking about your 69, iirc, it's supposed to be on the left side and under the edge of the fender with a mount on the floor and one on the fender well and a hook for a spring to keep it in place. The spring hooked to the floor and you put it on the jack where the jack pad goes and then jack it up tight against the spring and it stayed in place like that.

really, trunk floor body color ? .... i dont have ANY red in my trunk ! insides of the quarter panels, floor, wheel wells are all grey. when cleaning the surface rust up some of the body filler around to fuel tube lifted up and no red ! ...

I've seen cars that didn't have much body color in the truck and some that were fully painted.....I'm talking about new cars and not ones that someone has repainted. My first car, a 66 Belvedere which was bought new by my dad was fully painted in the trunk. My 67 and 69 Dart were fully painted, 70 Challenger and the list goes on. The cars that I mention still wore the original paint. What the factory did before 66....I have no idea.

Trunk....

You failed to mention what year your car is.... Looks like a 68/69/70 model, in which case the trunk was body color when new. The inside of the 1/4 panels had undercoating applied.

There is a sticker that attaches to the bottom of the trunk lid that will show in some detail how to stow the jack.... also found in the owners manual. If your car has been resprayed it may be gone... They are avaliable for less the $10.00.

As far as moisture under the rubber mat..... Did you ever concider you may need a new trunk lid seal....? Also pretty cheap and you can install it in the driveway.

early B-body trunk finish

What the factory did before 66....I have no idea.

The early B-body's were painted with a "spackle" type paint that was gray with white specks, very durable.

bluefury is right on,66 newer were body color ,65 back had splatter paint, grey with while speckle's.

There is no paint under any body seam sealer, factory primer(maybe)
OR RUST AND ROT. HOPE THIS HELPS

Cool! Thanks for that info. Never owned any Mopars that were older than 66. My dad had (in my lifetime), a 51 Cranbrook, a 56 Belvedere Sports Coupe and a 63 Dart before the 66 Belvedere was bought. I wasn't old enough to remember even seeing in the trunk of the 51 lol and I didn't really pay attention to the 56 trunk color but I kinda remember the trunk of the 63 being different.....

You have a 69' Satellite in plumb crazy purple.....Paint the trunk what ever color you like, and like the others said...Factory was painted body color
I'd go with something that is going to deter rust/corrosion for a daily driver. These cars are known to leak into the trunk regardless of seal condition. For god sakes don't leave a trunk mat in there. It's a rust farm.

BTW... Like the flag!

Unrestored Trunk Photos

This doesn't answer your question directly but since there was some mention of 65 and earlier trunks and the FBBO server wouldn't load pictures yesterday, this is a photo test and some early documentation. The 65 trunk pictured is an unrestored California Belvedere convertible that still has the Goodyear Power Cushion whitewall spare, the jack packed as original, and the jacking instructions on the trunk lid. There isn't a speck of rust under the liner so it does work in some cases and the splatter paint does go under the liner not body color.

I believe from his name, it's a 69, (Road Runner towel in the trunk), etc... & that's why the replies answer body color.

cool, i didnt think my trunk had ever been re-painted .... atleast it sure doesnt look like it !!

Yeah sorry about that i was too tired to think about mentioning the year. It is a 69' Roadrunner clone. Thanks for the help so body color is correct good to know.

Propwash that's what I'm leaning towards for those reasons. I was looking at the handful of trunk shots i saw and a good portion were undercoated grey or black.
