Question on NHRA Super Stock & Stock class wedge motors

I watched a few of the Driver Interviews with Bobby Fazio videos he posts on YouTube from the staging lanes and pits at NHRA National events and was surprised by the RPM's some of these guys are turning with their B & RB Mopar wedges. Anywhere from 7800 to 8400 rpm through the traps. As far as I know you can't run aftermarket blocks in Stock or Super Stock class so are these guys really turning these high RPM's on 2 bolt main blocks with a girdle and or main studs? Never realized they were spinning their motors that high.

I doubt they run them that high in stock. In S/S the rules are a lot looser. And yes, to run on the record they zing em. The matainence is quite high. As is the risk of parts failure,

Wow…. That is spinning it! I became comfortable with 7000 in my 400 block last year, and thought that was high. 8400? Damn!
 
You can use non assembly line blocks in stock eliminator. I don't know if any are NHRA accepted for BB mopars. The hot ticket for a fast 305 is a bow tie block, a stock 305 block won't work.

Edelbrock heads are approved for a 440+6
There is an aluminum head approved for a 340 but they need lots of work to make them legal.

I know that at one time the 383's had oil starvation problems due to the rpm's and pan limitations in NHRA Stock. See a lot of accumulators under the hoods now.
 
Awhile back lifters and springs were the limiting factor. Now we can use solid lifters and any spring as long as it’s the same ie single with dampener. Properly balanced there’s no reason the BB mopars can’t spin like the Fords and Chevy BBs. Stocker cams are limited to stock lift but ANY duration so the valves stay open a very long time for extra flow. Back in the 90s I had a 499 built by Kenny L that to make the 830 HP had to be turned 8500, that’s with a 4.15 crank and aluminum main caps in a 400 block. The 340 I have now has acid ported X heads and cast intake-AVS. These engines in D-E-F class are flying (D/S/A Duster-Demon running in the 9s). A/Stock 413s (62 Plymouth) are running 9.60s. These top cars have no money spared with ceramic bearings that cost more than whole cars being used. Figure the numbers, 9x30” radial tire with 5.13 or deeper gears running 125 plus mph. S/S A Hemi cars were turning 10,500 rpm at 150 mph with steel rods thru the traps.

The best I have run is 9.85 132.85. I use a iron 906 head and a stock 2 bolt block on my motors. HP is just over 600. I tried the aluminum heads but couldn't make them work as wanted. The reason the aluminum heads are used is the NHRA HP rating is less than the 906 head. The cars with aluminum heads weigh around a 150# less then the Iron head motors. I have to weigh 3330 at the starting line. The aluminum head cars have to weigh around 3180 on the starting line. If you use the standard 1 tenth for a hundred pounds that should gives the aluminum head cars a tenth and a half advantage. If Larry Hill could chime he could give us the exact numbers. I encourage every one to try Stock Eliminator Drag Racing.

I am trying to get there, 70 Duster 340.
 
A lot of the guys run aftermarket main cap assemblies.
We run stock Main caps on all our Stockers and we operate
at 7500+ thru to lights when required with extremely light oil
when needed. I hate to play back the tach!
Our whole family loves and has raced Stock and Superstock.
