Race season is coming. It's scramble time

I’ve been working diligently to get LemonWedge ready to go. New transmission appears to be ready to go. Can’t wait to see the results with the new converter. Swapped the stock seat setup for poly race seats and a 55-lb savings. Also got my belts updated; Pretty close to ready. Want to get the front end aligned., but it started and went for a shakedown today. Looking forward to a great year!

My sons 62 is dropping weight. The new scoop is a Hemi since the carbs are inline and the Max Wedge scoop has a depression in the center. However it was ugly. He cut it down and made a new flange. Made an air tray to seal it all up. Made sure the hood pins were squre to the hood surface. It has all the emblemsand factory moldings. Along with the fiberglass centers for the weld wheels it lost about 115lbs. Also added a 100amp 16volt alternator. The hood and wheels are at paint. The wheels will be gloss body color. The hood will be layered in red oxide, grey, then green. Going to rub thru the green in spots to attempt to match the paint on the upper surface of the car. Then cover it in flat clear. None of us have ever attempted this so we will see.

Wheels and alternator mount. The black wheel is the weld with the fiberglass insert. The green is a real steel wheel.
He's learned this craft pretty well.

The 62 sure is an interesting build. When looking at each photo a fellow has to look closer because there’s so much more to everything. But the same goes for the 64. Lots of work went into that scoop from what a guy started with. Looks and fits perfect. Love the black weld wheel !

Your work over the off season is going to show up on your time slips this year LW. Remember the 10-teens prediction? Think you’re about there. Good job!

My winter mods.
Cut the nose part off the roof, the bit overhanging the front window. It is causing buffeting, have a more streamlined front now. Bought another 100 watt solar panel. Will place on the ground, and aim at the sun. Have 200 watts on the roof.
Used a fuel tank, about 15 US gallons, to replace the holding tank, to gain more capacity. About four times the size of the original. Replaced the cam and gear, and carb on the 318, and installed a shift kit in the 727. OP Doug helped with that.
Also installing a new master cylinder.

I still need to jettison some weight. But last year it went 40’s in good air; was a mid-high 50’s car through the summer. If I can chop 2-tenths off that with this years updates, that’d put me in the 20’s & 30’s respectively. I’d be ecstatic with that.

Really, I just super hopeful that the new converter helps the cars consistency, and the brake helps the drivers consistency.

I love the kids wheel concept. I’ve got a buddy with a 67 Chevelle Post that runs a set of Weld ultralights that he has powder coated and fitted with a set of poverty caps screwed down to pass tech. Always thought those were cool…. But the green car wheels now takes that to a whole new level.
