Radical Pete Seeger Won't be down

Liberalism is a mental disorder. (Not my term but accurate). I won't hold that against him. May he Rest in Peace. I like the songs, but they probably contributed to the Vietnam Vets getting the shaft when they got home - those who got home.

His songs were better when they were done by someone else, but that was 50 years ago when they were hits.

As for his more recent contribution to society.....

"Buoyed by his characteristically soaring spirit, the surging crowd around him and a pair of canes, Pete Seeger walked through the streets of Manhattan leading an Occupy Wall Street protest in 2011."

Previous membership of the Communist party (but later renounced it)?

Thanks for all the music, sir, but no thanks for supporting Communists. RIP.

He wrote:
"This land is your land...this land is my land..."
And a a couple of other famous songs.

PS: He was a Communist.

There should be a moment of silence tonight (not my thought) during the (sad) State of the Union speech.

OOPS
Sorry, we have a correction here:

Woody Guthrie wrote:
"This Land is your land..."

Pete Seger wrote:
"Home on the range"
"Where have all the flowers gone"
"We shall overcome"
"Guantanamera"

Others, but that should hepl "jar" memories...

That would be Woody Guthrie's song.

Seeger wrote:

Turn, Turn, Turn.
If I had a hammer
Where have all the flowers gone?

And maybe a couple others.

Damn, just as you posted...I posted my correction...
Thanks R.C!

Look at what have I started here!!!!! It's now a race to beat me with the latest "won't be down for breakfast" thread.

Some of you guys remind me of Ed Anger from the Weekly World News, only with Ed Anger it was satire (and a lot funnier) and I think some of you are serious.

I'm sure you would've beaten me. But if you look at what time I posted that I normally would be in bed, but it was 9:20 pm Tues. in Japan when I did that, 6:50 am now, Are we confused yet?

A lot of the younger people from his era said that they were "Communist" without having the foggiest idea what Communism was. They were mostly trying to be anti-establishment or just piss off their parents. Most of them grew out of it.

Or found their way into politics and now comprise a lot of the political class in Washington and various state governments
