Ram....No competition

A buddy of mine is in the new car business and whenever he comes over, it's in a new fully loaded pickup. He works for a dealer that sells GM too and although those seem ok, the Dodge kicks ***. The last truck he came over in was a 2500 diesel and I couldn't believe the ride, power and handling and I 'test' em like I'm stealing it! This last truck wanted to break the speed limit and I was constantly having to pay attention to the speedometer and most of the time it was over the limit by 10 and one time it was 15 over in a 60 area....finally just set the cruise control lol

My A/C guy came over with a 2012 Ford F-150 and it had a v-6 twin turbo and took me for a ride, this thing would blow the doors off alot of v-8. So maybe dodge is good but ford isn't bad either . And I am not a ford guy but was impressed.

I test drove the Ford...it ain't hateful. But that thing hit every branch on its way down out of the ugly tree and they are priced WAY too high for what you get.

If they dropped the base down several thousand then maybe....but I still couldn't get past how damn ugly it was.

Yep the Dodge isn't no beauty queen either, nicer than the Ford though IMO, but the new Ford P-ups are down right, butt F-en' uggly.... I own a 2002 F-350 4x4 Power Stroke 6 speed Dually, it's not all that great of a truck either, had several of many recall issues, door locks, hydraulic clutch slave cylinder, turbo inlet pipe carcked real early on, rides like a f-en' tank, unless 1000+lbs of a load in it, even with air bags added to tame it down, it eats front tires like crazy, but it gets decent fuel mileage for a 1 ton, but crappy front suspension design {& somewhat front brakes too}, has absolutely no turning radius, but Fords P-ups, always have been like that...

Yep, I have about 8500 miles now and we're still getting along OK. The best I have seen MPG wise is 17 and have no idea how they claim 20 MPG. I'll likely never see it unless I drive 50 MPH on the HWY with an egg between the gas pedal and floor - down hill. I average 15 commuting to work. Pay load wise it seems a bit soft and can benefit from air bags or overloads of some type. With a car trailer hooked up AND lots of car parts in the bed the *** end is slammed pretty good but still drives solid as a rock at HWY speeds. It handles great, rides nice, $hitload of power and gets respectable gas mileage for all it does. I am not complaining :hello2:
just drove my from vegas to tahoe and back getting 19.3 on the freeway.mine is programmed, air intake and exhaust though.

Nice trucks ya'll i love my old ram 3500 cummins i have not gotten used to the new body style yet but in 94 it took awhile also. I can't afford a new one [diesel dually] as much as i would like one. I too looked at fords and chevy/gmc and i just like the rams more [except their transmissions] in the 3500s. I always wanted a dually and i have owned two in 17 years with no problems and ready to go to work.

Thanks. That's a nice truck you got there too. My neighbor has a 94 3500 cummins dually....I used to borrow his truck regularly. It has 300,000+ miles and is still strong as hell. I surely wish I could have afforded a big diesel dually too! But with the cost of deisel and no real justifcation for it...I just couldn't do it.

I remember talking to a towing guy that had a ram diesel and he said the biggest problem was the transmissions they couldn't take thepower of the engine.

Love My Ram. Great Truck 2010 4x4 TRX 3.92 Anti Spin.
Congrats On The New Truck Very Sharp.

That is correct the transmissions in the 94/95 trucks were prone to problems [mine held up great hauling boats cross country 23,500# constantly] they upgraded the trans in 98-00 and again later. They are still the upgraded 727 type trans however the new 4500 and 5500 rams use an allison trans [the best trans to have behind a diesel]. Thanks for the comments on my old truck we love her like part of the family. These photos are of my first 3500 a 95 at work.

Really You Looked At A Toilet I mean Toyota?
I'm An American.

MikeZ.

Yeah I am almost ashamed to admit I looked at the Toyota. But I am definetly ashamed to admit I looked at the Government Motors shivy.

I just wanted to cover all the bases. My brother has an old Tacoma that he has been beating up on for years and it has never let him down... So I figured...Oh what the hell let me at least look. Although I will admit I did feel like I was cheating on my wife or something while I was in the Toyota dealership! LOL

The Toyota's are not bad trucks as far as I am concerned they beat the Fords and GM's. I still put the Ram #1. I have had my 04 for a year now and so far love it. It goes like stink (not as good as you 09+ guys), tows like hell and isn't super terrible on gas. I don't have MDS and average around 15 on a mixed trip to work.

My Dad bought a brand new 2011 this past year and averaged 21 on a trip to northern Michigan...so they definitely get good mileage.

oh and for you guys with low mileage: I've now got 97k on the truck and it feels brand new...so look forward to lots of miles ahead.

So far, the trans on my 97 2500 Cummins powered truck is still working well but the rear needs a new set of gears at 140k. Figured the trans would be the first to go since this truck has done nothing but pull trailers most of it's life....
