Rant: Riding in other peoples Muscle cars/hot rods

My Rant, kinda long.

So ever since i have had the Coronet, a neighbor of mine and i have become friends, turns out he has a 66 Mustang GT with a mildy built 351, headers, 650 Carter, 4 speed car.

I never noticed it before as he hardly ever drives it. But being a fellow hot rodder we got to talking, he help me with diagnosing that weird noise i had in the Coronet and i helped him with stuff he didnt know about cars etc.

I took him for a ride in the Coronet, my "Alderwood Cruising Loop" 15 mile square around Lynnwood. Didnt speed or anything, i did let the throttle loose once and let the smoke out of the tires once.

SO, the other day, he had just finished putting new header gaskets and shocks on it, i was walking the dogs around and stopped to see if he wanted to go on a cruise on Sat.


He says sure, just finished my car, wanna go for a ride? Sure why not. So, we go out cruise through the neighbor hood, and heads to the freeway.

He turns a corner to the on ramp and nails it, rear end slides, yeah, thats cool, not impressed, the car is light and its a 4 speed.

We get on the freeway, now, mind you this is at 5 in the afternoon. He friggen speeds up to 110mph, i am thinking "Dude, your a idiot" 110mph on the freeway at 5" Now i am not a pansy or anything, i took my Satellite to 140, and do crazy things too, but with no one in the car, and not on a crowded freeway.

"I am sure your car can go fast, but i dont need to be in the passenger seat on the freeway at 5 in the afternoon to see it. I wouldnt drive that fast, especially with someone else in the car at that time of day.. TO me that was just irrisponsible, and i just lost a ton of respect for him

Oh yeah. I know a guy that makes a nice living running a lawn care business. He spends his money on hot chicks and hot cars. I went for a ride with him one time in a NSX. Did the same kind of thing.

He also bought a B body vert. Numbers matching car. And on his first drive, he has it out on the highway doing 120+ and gaulded a couple of pistons

O this is funny I have a frend the same way he rides in my car I will tikel the secendarys run it up around 4500 and shift.and it buruns him up.we get in his and its 7000 shifting and I here thats whow you run them.his car is a chevywith a 383 stroker and mines a 512 One of these days im going to shut him up..Artie:yes:

Oh yeah, nothing makes a a bad day better like 440 cubic inches. I look forward to turning that key every day after work.

I know how you feel been there for the white knuckle ride. Fist time was in high school in my buddys Charger, hes doing 110 and takes his hands off the wheel to show me what great handling his car has, IDIOT! I about wet my pants after laughing at me pleading he put his hands on the wheel and slowed down. Another time another buddy with a Camaro rally sport built for racing took us up to 120 on a winter road with icy spots, same guy commited suicide a few years later, great guy I really miss him, little value for life though I guess. Dont get in the car with knukleheads like this. I am lucky to have made it through with friends like this.!

My friends, all kids, think that a ride means drive like a jack ***. I mean, yes some of my friends get an interesting ride in my car, but not in rush hour traffic. I agree that is stupid.
I have played around, and pushed it sideways with a friend in the car (usually by accident while playing around), but this is on open roads with no one around.
The problem is that many people drive that way, and many people feel the need to impress others. I have my cars for me. If you enjoy, more power to me, if not sorry but they are intended to keep me happy; no need to try and impress you.

Oh yeah, nothing makes a a bad day better like 440 cubic inches. I look forward to turning that key every day after work.

you got that right, there's nothing more convincing than the torque of a big block !!
