Just installed a new centerforce dual friction clutch on my 68 Coronet and I am getting a rattling sound when I push in the clutch pedal.
Clutch engages and disengages with no issues and I hear no noises when the clutch pedal is not being pushed.
As soon as I push in the pedal and the bearing starts to disengage the clutch the noise starts.
I have a newer model 833 23spline trans.
I have checked the pinon bearing support on the trans and it is in spec (1.248-1.247").
I have replaced the clutch lever and have just tried a second hayes release bearing.
Should I be using a centerforce release bearing?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick

Do you have the disc facing the right way? Make sure the weights on the pressure plate are centered and the throw out bearing fits in the center without touching them.

If everything was installed properly it sounds like a dry throw out bearing some of the older trucks had a grease fitting and would rattle like that as you put pressure on it. If the bearings in the trans input shaft were gone it could make noise... I had an 833 in a truck that was noisy from bad syncronizers but it was more of a grinding you felt through the stick..

I would use the centerforce bearing or at least compare it to the hays. Like mentioned above it could be larger diameter and just touching

Was the throw out bearing snug on the throw out collar/tube? If too loose, it could be moving around on the tube. Just a thought.....

The throw out bearing collar could be loose where it attaches to the trans. I had a rattle like you are describing and the collar bolts were loose that attach the tube to the trans.

Sorry for not replying for so long but I have been out of town. Talked with an old mechanic friend and he suggested checking the end play on the crank. He said he has seen it on a couple of other 4 speed cars over the years. Crank moves forward too much and something starts hitting, usually on the out side of the motor. Sure enough the end play is at .012" so the motor is coming out of the car. I will let everyone know what I find.
