reaction

For a Sportsmans tree, .548 ain't too shabby! Much closer and you're flirting
with the big Red eye.

thats a real good start, if you can get it down to the .520's consistently you'll be pretty hard to beat.

working on my rt, is a .548 a good start?

was it in a 5 tenths, Sportsman Tree or on a 4 tenths Pro Tree ??, if it's a Sportsman tree that the lights flash 3 yellow bulbs one after each other than the green, that's a pretty good reaction, if it's a Pro Tree where all three yellows flash at the same time, then the green, it's not so good...

Another question on reaction time... what do you think an average vehicle's reaction time is? I'm talking a factory 440 charger, stock carb, stock springs, 410 gears, run of the mill shocks, brand new right off the show room floor

You can adjust your RT simply by where you stage at. Deeper usually means a better light. So long as you stage in the same place each pass, you can make any decent car cut a good light but if the car isn't decent (loose?), then you will have a harder time to cut consistent lights.

cwhubb YES your car has a portion of that reaction time & you have a portion of that reaction time, it takes X amount of time for you to see & react to the lights, then after you press on the gas or let off a button or what ever, then the car has X amount of time... the car has a particular amount of time to respond thru the carb, trans/converter or clutch linkage etc., rear end, tires, shocks, body lift or squat & down to the tires & ultimately to the ground, then the car starts to move forward, upwards & finally clears/break both the beams at the tires when launching... AKA you Reaction Time

ok, the reason I ask is I play online with a sportsman practice tree , yes I know I cant drive a pc down the strip lol, at my best I got my average down to .34, when i try to get faster I redlight by less than a tenth, usually .003-.001 in the real world will the vehicle reaction time compensate and stop the redlights?

For me its one light. If I leave on the last yellow as soon as it pops I,m golden.Worked on my new tight truck as well as my dart.

@ daredevil thats what I hope will happen whats your av rt?

yes probably your car won't react all that quick, especially if it's near stock, allot of motion on a stock vehicle, just to get it finally moving & clear both beams... probably a big portion of the reaction times is the car

are you running slicks ?? that will also help too, over what street tires will effect the initial movement...

I should be at least competitive lol. I'm old (53) and alot slower now, dont know why I never made time for this when I was in my prime, life and excuses I guess

I wont run slicks, maybe if I can come up with some extra cash drag radials, other wise 245/45/17 front 255/45/17's bfg sport comp 2's rear I'm thinking a loose car will be to my advantage

I'm 53 & as good as I ever was, haven't done any sportsman tree in a coons age thou, nothen' but Pro tree for a long time & haven't raced much in the last 5-6 years now, taking car of an old Pops & old Dog... for me life gets in the way now more, than when I was younger...LOL... I was a consistent 0.420's in a manual Lenco/Jeffco & Slider or Crower Clutch car & 0.4-teen's with a trans-brake/auto high stall speed converter Torqueflite or Powerglide car, but they were light race cars too...

you were hard to beat... impressive times

sometimes.... I had fast junk & a tight budget, never many spares, it's extremely hard to beat a fat wallet, with big money check book tuned up cars behind & backing them, I had to drive well & tune exceptionally well, leave on them, to even have a chance in early Nostalgia Door Slammer racing or early Pro-Mod or Calif. Outlaw Pro Stock Assn. or even Top Sportsman classes.... In Comp Eliminator or Super Eliminator 7.90 my 23 T AA/Altered it was a breeze, allot of fun, I actually had to try to not red light, solid mounted rear end & tripod front suspension basically a slow TA/FC with a Fiberglass 23 Ford Altered Body, it wasn't so much damn work either, like the door cars are, I won allot of rounds, mostly by hole-shot wins, slower ET but got there 1st, but I unfortunately never won a Ironman or a Wally thou...
