The 8-3/4" will do well if the tubes & whole back are trussed, I've been in the mid 9's @ 135 N/A & mid 8's @ 156 with well over 800+hp using 300shot N20 on an 8-3/4" 742 case & with 2790 universals for over 6 years, just before I sold the car, I swaped over to a Mopar Performance aluminum center section, $900 & ran with both 3.73:1 & 3.91:1 Richmond Pro Gears, 31 Spline Strange axles & an old clutch type center & a spool depending on the gears or N20 set up... The 8-3/4" are much lighter, less sprung & un-sprung weight, less rotating mass, than a Dana 60, but I_M_H_O the Dana 60 is a better choice in the long run, especially if it's a track only car, if you do all the stuff, I did to the 8-3/4" you could have "nearly" had a new Strange Dana S-60 track ready for "almost" the same amount of money...I see MW offers a 35 spline spool for the 8 3/4......
Are you using air shocks as a replacement for your leaf springs? Sounds to me like you are well into the 10's and well, with the experiences I've seen with 8 3/4's going that fast, I'm leary about using one. Yeah, there are guys that say they are going even faster but imo, they are on the edge with them and again imo, something better would give you a higher margin of safety....even a stock Dana 60 would do that but you would have to use aftermarket axles to pass tech inspection. Using a spool in the 60 would reduce the weight some but the stock Power-Lok would do the job.
