Fel pro has a rear main seal kit that for the side seal consists of a tube of RTV silicon that is pushed into the side seal area and then these little things that look like minature pipe cleaners are pushed into the middle of the hole. Anybody ever use this

Yes, customer didn't complain about a leak, BUT I still would rather have the original side seals that swell up.

It was used in a '68 Coronet I bought. The side seals leaked oil like a sieve. When I took out the rear bearing cap, I found that the sealant had an air bubble which had formed next to the cap mating surface. It allowed a direct path for the oil to leak out. I didn't use that method when I replaced the seal. If I had, I would have tried putting a straw on the end of the sealant tube which could be inserted into the side seal hole to force the sealant all the way down into the hole before inserting the pipe cleaner. I hope you have better luck than the guy who used it on my engine.

I've never had an issue with the factory/stock side seals and have never figured out how people have a problem.

It doesn't work. Just tried it on my 383. You cant get the silicone all the way down because it squirts out the sides and then theres air bubles. Worst deal Ive ever seen or tried to use. Cant believe they came up with something like that.

I don't get the pipe cleaners either but I was able to make them work. As mentioned, just make sure you have solid silicone sealer in that groove over squeaky clean metal.
