I recently purchased the components to rebuild the rear suspension of my 66' Satellite. My car will see the occasional trip to the track but street duty will be its calling. The components purchased are XHD springs, new shackles, AR095 front spring hanger, AR107 reinforcement plates, new u-bolts, ADDCO 7/8" rear sway bar, and Rancho 9000 RS99116 shocks.

Should I purchase an adjustable pinion snubber?
Should I install 2 degree pinion shims for a street duty car? What is the most pinion angle I can run with a street car?

Come on guys tell me something. I would like to get the thing close while I am rebuilding the rear suspension. I value your input on my build.

I use an adjustable snubber, works well on and off the track. Shims and angle, no idea, mine is stock and bites hard with slicks and snubber extended.

2 degrees will be fine for a street strip car. just check to make sure your trans. tailshaft is in the right position with the correct angle..

I thought about purchasing the adjustable pinion snubber. I will order the MP adjustable snubber immediately since I will be going back together shortly.

It is gonna be a little while before the transmission is back in the car. I guess I can wait and put the angle finder on it once it is back together. I was just hoping to get it close on the rebuild.

If you are going to buy a pinion snubber, I would get the screw type one from Mancini racing. It has more adjustability.

Do you have enough room to run an adj. pinion snubber ? they are quite a bit taller than the factory style, non adjustable snubbers...

the adj. snubber's do work real well especially with S/S Springs, I'm not sure about the XHD springs, it should... Also a set of Calvert CalTracs is a good alternative too, great for leaf-spring cars, Street/Strip cars.. a good adjustable shock will help too... good luck

x2 on the Calvert CalTracs.

:iamwithstupid: Also Competition Engineering Slide-A-Link, I have a friend that swears by them, I've never run 1 yet, I think they should work, but are about $422 Jegs or Summit, even a good old set of slapper bars can help if your getting too much axle wrap or wheel hop...

Maybe a binding strap {or2} removed at the rear of the XHD springs will free up some movement for lift too, allot of old guys use to do it back in the day, there's a great book by Mopar Performance #P5007160 "Chassis 9th edition", has a bunch of proven old school, simple combos, it's a good read if nothing else....

Budnicks,
Thanks for that insight. I will pull a measurement to find out how much room is available.

I run a adjustable pinion snubber and super stock springs and it works very well

Budnicks,
I just measured with the suspension at rest on the ground. The measurement between the floor pan and the top of the third member is 5 inches. This should be enough room to run an adjustable pinion snubber, right?

Well guys I just order the Mancini adjustable pinion snubber. I ordered the one that looks like the MP version. If the product is too tall I will modify it to suit my application. This will help me stay with the stock appearing theme. I appreciate all the input and hope to have pictures posted tomorrow, thanks.

Hmmm, when I bang shifts on my car, there is a loud thump. Wonder if it's the snubber hitting the floor? Maybe I need some slappers? Not doing the SS springs or Cal Tracs, street car, rides decent.

YES, you should be fine, you want a little clearance {depends on the amount of movement your specific combo needs to work, experiment with it} & you don't want the rubber snubber hitting/contacting the floor, until you need it to, it will compress slightly too, it's to limit axle/spring wrap, or it will just thump against the floor, while driving around... Good luck

I was going to suggest that the pin type adjustable style although not as infinitely as adjustable, as the screw/treaded type, it could be modified or build your own too, you beet me too it...

If your car is either pretty low, you have soft suspension, weak shocks or worn/sagging springs, or a combo of all of them factors, it very well could be hitting the floor... IMHFO if adjusted properly, the proper length etc., the slapper/traction bars can work on a limited basis on a lessor HP, street/strip car, many people used them for eons, long before all the new suspension stuff came out... They work for what they are intended for, to stop wheel hop/axle wrap, usually on a weak front spring section {allot of cars had softer/weaker leaf springs, for a cushier ride or economy/Low HP type applications, it was a cheap alternative, traction aid}... Not knowing exactly what you have, I don't really know if it would be the best for your specific combo or not, I'm just guessing... A pinion snubber is basically doing the same things, but lets the springs wrap a little more & lets the spring flex a little more, than with a slapper/traction bar.... good luck

Received a shipment from Mancini yesterday. I am waiting for one more delivery from Mancini that will have the adjustable pinion snubber and shims. I cannot wait until it is all complete then I can rack your brains about front suspension tips and tricks.
