I had to let the air out of my 235/60/15 to either install or remove the wheel/tire to work on the axle. The top of the brake drum would not allow the
tire to slip in/out easily. I have not changed tires on a b-body in years and just do not remember that clearance issue...Any thoughts?

I guess you lift the car at the rearend if you change to a subframe instead the rear will hang down and make the tire come loose easier.

Are you jacking it up on the frame to lift- Im not saying your a idiot but if you jacked up on the leaf springs it would be tough to get the tire out...

Welcome to the forums by the way-

Is this a front or rear tire? Either way, when you jack the car up, the tire should drop below the fender so it should pull straight off, unless you are jacking it up by one of the suspension components (leaf spring/axle, etc).

that really isn't a very big tire, i don't get it... unless you had some crazy strange backspacing or?

lift from the frame like these guys are saying, let the axle hang.

Why is it so difficult for people to indicate in there post WHAT YEAR/MODEL car they are referring to?

If it is a 66/67 B body it is a common problem for that size tire to be hard to remove, like impossible if jacked up by the rear end or springs. You have to jack the body up so the suspension hangs down.

Thanks for the welcome! Not at all offended by the possible idiot jacking the rear suspension/rear axle comments....However, I was jacking by the front reinforced frame rail. I am very suprised at the clerarance with just a regular
tire. The suspension drop seems plenty to clear until the moment of truth and
I am jamming the tire between the brake drum and fender. Is is possible the rear end housing has been changed? The tire clears fine once you get past the brake drum/fender. In fact, it looks like I could put much wider if I had the right back space.....

My bad...The is a 67' Coronet Coupe. Longtime old bracket car which looks like a street car until you notice the full cage and the one-piece fiberglass frontend....Old school w/steel 392 and 727, 8 3/4 w/4.10 gear. I will try to send some pics...D

huh, I thought I had it figured out as a wide dana 60 when you said bracket car... then I see you listed an 8 3/4...

Thats the problem the 1 peice front end possibly comes alot lower or is narrower than the org. fenders ...Having clearance issues in the front for a mopar is very uncommon; cheers

Rear tire clearance....No problem with the front, lots of room especially since we are running fairly skinny fronts...

My bad I misread...Id check to make sure thats the correct rear end for that car-
Could be a 71-74 wider 8 3/4 - bout a 3" differance

Is the measurement from inside the backing plates or outside? What should the dimension be for a 67' Coronet?

Sometimes I run (on the 66) 235/60/15 on 15x6.5 rallye wheels and they clear but just barely and require a bit of wiggling.

I have 275/60/15's on my 66 Satellite. No clearance problems if you put the floor jack on the frame and let the axle hang as previously mentioned. They are on the car used as my avatar.

I think Plymouths have about 1/2" more clearance at the lip than Dodges.
