Hi All,

Thinking about installing a rear view camera in my 69 Coronet as old age is limiting my flexibility and backing out of my garage into the alley or any other situation like that is very difficult for me. Asking if anyone out there has done this and if so whose products did you use and how well does it work for you.

Thanks in advance.

I have a rearview camera in my modern Challenger, I'll tell you that's a must have ! My monitor is in the factory radio location, but it's in a modern Hemi car. Our classic cars are easier to view rearward, but understandably it would be prudent to do so in your case. My camera is located in the license plate opening. The monitors can either be in the rearview mirror, or a larger-square module located somewhere in the console area.

I put one on the back of my box truck.
It works okay, but I don't use it much, it helps with trailer hookup, but I can't see much with the car on the trailer.
it's easy to use ,and so far always works. But the mount to the windshield failed repeatedly, so the screen is now a hand-held, that I plug into the cigarette lighter when I need it.
Mine is a wireless camera, mounted In a license plate frame (which i had to install in the middle of the truck, actual license plate is mounted on the corner of the truck)

Mine is a "Type S" from costco.

The license plate frame ones work pretty good. I added one to my last tool truck. It hooked to the back up lights and would come on when the lights were lit. Pretty handy.

Robby can you post a pic please? Is this the factory set up or aftermarket? My 17 could benefit from a camera since I don’t have a factory one. Please share your expirence with the view and picture. TIA

I put one on my 67 charger and love it. There was a hole in the rear end from a Killswitch from the previous owner that I figured that be a good thing to fill it with. Bought everything off Amazon. Super easy to hook up. I bought a monitor that folds flat and flips down when I want to use it. 3Md it to the bottom of the dash so you don’t really even notice it.

Pricy and can mount else where like suction mount? Wanna keep my factory radio spot
I don't remember the price, for sure. Wanna say under $100. Maybe $80. Who knows what the price might be now, or even if it's available. I don't remember what accessories it came with, but the suction cup mount for the windshield was garbage. The fifth time it fell off I gave up.
I keep it in the center console, and just plug it into the cig lighter when I need it.

Thanks for the response I appreciate it. Challenger def needs something and factory units mega $$$

I have cameras on my Charger and also on the Hearse. After messing with the separate screens I decided to try dash cams that mount right over the inside mirror and you can switch the screen to show front, rear or both.

Rear camera has 170 degree view which really makes a difference. Plus everything is being recorded so you can have evidence if something happens. Now I would not be without one because once you get used to being able to see everything going on behind your car there’s no going back.

I don’t have pictures or brands right now, but suggest searching amazon or other places for dash cams that are mirror mounted and with a detached front camera or built in. I have one of each and would prefer the detached front camera because it doesn’t limit your monitor adjustment to properly aim the front camera.
Hope this helps.

Don't like to use the one in my wife's suv, when I learn how to drive my grand pa told me am no lizard to bent in the seat, use the mirrors he said still use ir today, although I can see the utility when you get older.

Several decent options on Amazon depending on whether you want to change out your rearview mirror or just clip it on.

There is a video of the camera views. The $400 on has a bunch of screen options.

This one is clip on and has a WiFi rear camera and voice control with GPS. Not sure of the battery life for rear camera.

I haven't done the rear view camera yet. Just too lazy to hard wire it to a dash cam.
The Price and quality of the cameras has gotten good. I have three front only dash cams I have gotten over the years and each new one has been better than the prior one without costing more. My old one had a remote mount GPS module and no wifi / voice control. That's all built into the new one.
I just got the new one today, so haven't installed it yet. Its a VIOFO A119 Mini2? Let you know if I have issues with it. It didn't come with SD card or polorized lens filter
