I happened upon the website for Brewers Performance to get parts for a future rebuild on an A833 box.
Just looking for positive (or not-so-positive) comments on them as a supplier :)

Not trying to start a flame war here, just looking for a good company to deal with....thanks guys.

Brewer's is awesome, highly regarded, IMO one of the best businesses to deal with. they are very helpful, very quick in responding, even to us here, and they ship parts fast.
Things I have bought from brewer's; main case, gear cluster, rebuild kits, shifter rods, bearing retainers, bearings.

also if you need a hand with the rebuild let me know, I have rebuilt 2 of them now,

Cheers Benno :headbang:

Never heard a bad thing about Brewers or Passon. Both have great reputations.

I have dealt with Passon quite a bit and he's great. I also got some Hurst shifter parts from Brewers and no complaints.

I've always had great service from Brewers. Would highly recommend them.

Well I'll bite on that line! In your opinion, how 'hard' is it (I know, I know, hard is a realitive word) to rebuild one of these manual trannys? I've got one that needs a resealing at the very least but I'm suspicous of some of the PO's work. I know I've been looking at Brewers and saving up my coins to purchase one of their rebuilt trannys but figured I'd ask someone who's done a rebuild before.

They are straightforward on rebuilding them. Easier IMHO than a Muncie or toploader. Things you're going to want...press, snap ring pliers, typical mics and feeler gauges, etc. If this seems like a big project, the Workbench book, How to rebuild and Modify high performance manual transmissions is good for what I would call an entry level text. That, combined with knowledge from ppl on here should get you through your first trans rebuilding job.

Thanks for the input guys...at least I know now that my mechanic friend can do it almost blinded instead of wasting money with a "gearbox specialist" who charges the earth and takes forever. :)

IDK about Brewers but Jamie at Passon Perf is great.

The act of disassembly and assembly of the 68 and later 833 is not difficult, but as with any manual transmission, you need to understand what to look for when evaluating the components.

I've purchased from Brewers and was very happy with their customer service, stock and shipping times. A good company to deal with.

I agree 100%. A person who is mechanically inclined and a correct shop manual can dis and reassemble an A833. What is important is being able to recognize wear and what needs replaced.......................MO

While you are in it, and you have the ball detent cover, do the shift improvement mods by polishing the ramps of the detent, there is a posting on moparts about upgrading these tranny's. Tim
